Digital picture editing is made a little easier with Mary Anne and Michael Franco in their seminar, Digital Photography: Intermediate Picture Editing with Photoshop on Saturday, March 19 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. The Francos provide expert information on restoring old or damaged photos; adding or removing elements from photos; file types and sizes. The last class for this season will be held on May 14 with a seminar on printing pictures. There is no charge for the demonstration -style class held in the Community Room. Annual Book Sale nearingThe library's annual book sale is set for Saturday, April 16 through Tuesday, April 19. This popular fund-raiser features more than 30,000 items (books, audiobooks, videos, DVDs, CDs) in more than 40 categories. One of the reasons why the sale has such a following is because of the quality of the items which are donated to the library. Other people's clutter becomes the library's gold mine. People wishing to donate items for the sale only have until this Saturday, March 19. Items are being received at the bin on Godfrey Place. After Saturday, donations will not be accepted until May 1. This gives the tireless volunteers a chance to regroup, reassess and reassign items after the sale. For more information about donating items for the sale, call 762-3950.
Late Winter Story Times continueChildren ages one to six have another session of Story Times to take them to April 7. Late Winter Story Times are Mondays through Thursdays at various times depending on the child's age. There is no charge for Story Times. Advance registration is required. Hat Knitting Workshop rescheduledThe Hat Knitting Workshop for Teens will have its last session on Tuesday, March 22 from 4 - 5. This session was postponed due to the March 8 snowstorm. The knitting program is made possible by the John Curran Memorial Teen Fund.
Activities about Ancient RomeNot many people think of fun and games when it comes to ancient Rome, but on Saturday, March 26 from 2 - 3 p.m., that is exactly what it will be when Wilton High School teacher Max Gabrielson introduces kids to ancient Romans and Latin. Kids in grades 7 and 8 will get a better understanding of Latin and ancient history in this one-hour program. Gladiators, architecture, Roman numerals, Greek and Roman mythology, history, government, the Roman calendar and holidays and lots of SAT-oriented English words derived from Latin are just some of the things to be learned during this fun and informative session. Positive discipline subject of seminarOn Monday, March 28 Scott Noyes, a noted child development expert addresses parent of young children (birth to age 8) on the positive aspect of discipline in the seminar, Positive Discipline-That Works! from 7 - 9 p.m. The focus of the entertaining session is teaching children how to behave rather than reinforcing inappropriate choices. The talk includes why not use punishment; humorous vignettes illustrating eight management techniques; and a discussion of the challenges in implementing the philosophy. The energetic workshop on helping children learn appropriate behavior is made possible by Bright Horizons of Wilton. There is no charge for the program. International Book Group meetsThe International Book Group program, that keeps falling prey to the snowstorms this winter, will have its first session on Thursday, March 31 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. for women of all ages. The group reads books from other countries and the discussions are led by members of the community who are from the countries of origin. Teresa Maultz, who is from Poland, will lead the discussion of Madame by Antoni Libera. Miwako Ogasawara, from Japan, will lead the April 28 discussion of a book to be announced. On May 26, Golnar Sadeghi from Iran will talk about Journey from the Land of No: A Girlhood Caught in Revolutionary Iran by Roya Hakakian. Books are available at the library for loan.
