International Book Group debuts tonight

Women of all ages will be gathering at the library tonight for the first of three get-togethers to discuss books from other countries. The program, International Book Group: Literature of Other Lands, is from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Wilton residents who come from the countries written about in the stories will share the experiences with the group. Tonight's novel is Madame by Antoni Libera. Theresa Maultz from Poland will lead the discussion. On Thursday, April 28, Miwako Ogasawara, originally from Japan, will discuss Spring Snow by Yukio Mishima and Golnar Sadeghi from Iran will discuss Journey from the Land of No: A Girlhood in Revolutionary Iran by Roya Hakakian on May 26. Beverages and international desserts will be served at each gathering. Books are available for loan at the front desk. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. PC Computing Clinics are back

Roger Giler, popular computer columnist for The Wilton Bulletin, will reinstate his PC Computer Clinics at the library on the first Saturday of April, May and June from 10 - 11:30. This Saturday's clinic will feature Buying a Computer - the "ins" and "outs" of what a person needs for personal computing. Each of the monthly sessions will consist of a selected topic presentation, followed by an audience Q&A. The question and answer period is based on the audiences' interests. The May 7 clinic is Backing Up Data Using Freeware and the June 4 session is Protecting Your Computer from Predators. There is no charge for the clinic programs. Advance registration is suggested. Frances Joslin Gold remembered

A very special art exhibition graces the walls of the library with a memorial retrospective of the works of Frances Joslin Gold, opening on Sunday, April 3 from 11:30 - 1. Ms. Gold, a professional artist, lived in Wilton for 58 years and passed away at the age of 90 in 2004. Her daughter, Susan Gold Purdy organized this show which includes landscapes, collages, florals, still lifes and a selection of portraits. Paintings will be for sale with proceeds benefiting the library through Saturday, April 30. This is the lst art show at the library for about a year until the construction project is complete. Women's rights film at library

The library and the Wilton League of Women Voters co-sponsor the showing of the HBO film, Iron Jawed Angels on Sunday, April 3 from 3 - 5 p.m. The film features a cast of outstanding actresses including Hilary Swank, Angelica Houston and Julia Ormond in a fight to save the women's right to vote. The story spans the time from 1912 to 1920 and follows the struggle of Alice Paul and Lucy Burns who led the culminating fight for the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. The film will be seen on the large screen projection system at the library. Refreshments will be served. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. Selling on eBay

Tom Greenbaum is returning to the library to continue his popular subject of selling on eBay, the Internet auction site on Tuesday, April 5 from 12:30 - 2 p.m. This demonstration style class is a continuation of one held in February in which a very enthusiastic audience requested another session to cover more detail. Audience members are encouraged to bring an item for sale to the class so that it can be used as an example during the presentation. There is no charge for the program. Books, books and more books

The library's ever-popular annual book sale takes place inside and outside the library on Saturday, April 16 through Tuesday, April 19. Best sellers, hard covers, paperback books, teen serial books, children's chapter and picture books, CDs, DVDs and audiobooks make up the more than 30,000 items on sale in 40 different categories including gardening, mysteries, travel and science fiction. The sale open from 8 - 10 a.m. on Saturday for Early Buyers with an admission price of $15 per person. From 10 to 5, the doors open to the public with no admission fee. On Sunday, the sale is open from noon to 5. Items are priced as marked on both days. On Monday, from 9 - 4 items are ½ priced and on Tuesday from 9 - 2 items are free with donations being accepted. A silent auction of rare books will take place on Saturday from 8 - 5 and Sunday from noon - 4.

As in the past three years, the Rotary Club of Wilton will be selling donuts and coffee on Saturday morning and hot dogs, chips and sodas during the day. Proceeds from the food sales also will benefit the library. For more information about the sale, call 762-3950.
