Communicating Successfully with Your Kids, Part Two will take place on Tuesday, April 26 from 10 - 11:30 a.m. at the library. The program presenters are Wilton School system psychologists Jackie Monahan and Beth Gallos along with assistant director of special services, Pauline Smith. The presentation is a continuation of the program started in March based on the book How to Talk So Kids Will Listen and Listen So Kids Will Talk. The seminar is designed to provide strategies on how to engage a child's cooperation and how to problem solve while empowering the child. There is no charge for the program. Book group explores other culturesThe second International Book Group discussion, Literature of Other Lands, takes place on Thursday, April 28 from 7 - 8:30 p.m. Women of all ages are invited to join this group that reads books from other cultures and discusses them with guests from the countries of origin. The guest speaker for the second session is Miwako Ogasawara from Japan who will be discussing Spring Snow by Yukio Mishima. Refreshments and a Japanese dessert will be served. Circus fun benefits libraryJuggling, acrobatics, balancing and animals doing tricks are just some of the fun awaiting kids when they attend Circus Follies on Saturday, April 30 at Wilton High School's Little Theater. The library's fund-raiser show times are at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.. Former Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey circus clown Mark Stolzenberg and his assistant Anna Jack, formerly of the Moscow Circus, provide entertainment for the kid in everyone. Toys and refreshments including hot dogs, soda, water, candy and popcorn will be available for purchase before the first show and between the two shows. The performances and the proceeds from the food and toys benefit the library's technology and collection funds. Tickets are $10 per seat per show and currently on sale at the library. Children create designs for momWith Mother's Day right around the corner, kids are invited to come to the library for Create Your Own Mother's Day Memento from Sunday, May 1 through Saturday, May 7 to make their very own creative cards to give to their moms on Mother's Day. The library is providing supplies; the kids just have to bring their creativity. There is no charge for the program and reservations are not required.
Author and designer discuss publishing children's booksOn Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m., author Elissa Grodin and designer Pamela Hovland discuss their experiences in publishing in ABC's of Children's Books. The talk is geared to aspiring adult authors and illustrators who are interested in the publishing process for children's books. Elissa Grodin has authored N is for Nutmeg and D is for Democracy, two alphabet books from two different series for Sleeping Bear Press. Pamela Hovland has designed ABC NYC: A Book about Seeing New York City, Harry N. Abrams, publisher. Books will be available for purchase and signing. There is no charge for the program. Children's films at the libraryA month-long film program, Movies in May for Kids, begins on Wednesday, May 4 from 4 - 5:30 with a showing of The Incredibles. The movies are for kids ages five and up. Children in kindergarten or younger must be accompanied by an adult. The schedule is May 11: Shark Tales; May 18: Sponge Bob Square Pants -The Movie; May 25: Where the Red Fern Grows. Short Stories with BenBen Van Vechten presents A Short Series on Short Stories starting Thursday, May 5 from 10:30 to noon. The five-part series explores various authors and their writing techniques.
