Tom Greenbaum returns to the library this evening in Taking the Mystery Out of eBay from 7 - 9 p.m. in which he discusses buying on the Internet auction site. Tom has presented several eBay buying and selling classes at the library during the day; tonight he reprises one of the classes on buying and touches on selling. Printing pictures discussedMary Anne and Michael Franco return to the library on Saturday, May 14 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. for Digital Photography--Printing Your Pictures. The Francos have held a series of classes on digital photography throughout the year. The program includes a discussion of printers, types of printers, costs, types of papers and photo dimensions. Poetry readingSophie Cabot Black, author of the newly-released The Descent and The Misunderstanding of Nature, will read her poetry on Sunday, May 15 at 2 p.m. in the program, Poetry Reading with Sophie Cabot Black. Ms. Black, a Wilton resident, was a Fellow at the Bunting Institute of Radcliffe and she currently teaches at Columbia University. She received the Norma Farber Book Award from the Poetry Society of America in 1994 for her book, The Misunderstanding of Nature. There is no charge for the program. Movies galore at the libraryChildren ages 5 and up are in for a treat at the library on Wednesdays from 4 - 5:30 during Movies in May for Kids. On Wednesday, May 18 The SpongeBob Squarepants Movie will be shown and on Wednesday, May 25 Where the Red Fern Grows will be played on the large projection screen. Popcorn and refreshments will be served. There is no charge for the movies and reservations are not required. Children in kindergarten or younger must be accompanied by an adult. Carmen discoveredAuthor Gail Lavielle discusses her book, Carmen: The Seduction of the Century on Wednesday, May 18 at 7 p.m. The author has written about the opera, the history of its creation as a short story by Merimee through the Bizet adaptation to the film interpretation. The author poured through historical research and conducted interviews during her years while working in a Wall Street investment bank. During that time, she contributed various articles on music and opera to The Wall Street Journal, The Washington Post, Opera Quarterly, Opera International and Music and Musicians. Civil unions discussedThe League of Women Voters and the library co-sponsor A Civil Discussion about Marriages and Unions on Thursday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m. With civil unions a current topic in the Connecticut legislature, this session promises to be informative. A panel discussion will be held surrounding three patterns of partners: traditional marriages, same-sex marriages and civil unions. Guest speakers will be Anne Stanback, Executive Director, Love Makes A Family, and Brian Brown, Executive Director, Family Institute of Connecticut.
