Help for parents of college freshmen

Tonight is the time that parents with college freshmen might be able to get answers on how to help their kids through their first fall away in the seminar, Freshman Frenzy-How to Support Your Teenager's Transition to College. Janet Bertoldi, Ph.D. talks to parents tonight at 7:30 at the library on topics ranging from balancing social and academic life, separation anxiety, loneliness and homesickness; identity issues, roommates and other relationships; drugs, drinking and sex, and academic pressures. Dr. Bertoldi also provides insight on how parents can be supportive without being intrusive. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. To register, call 762-3950 or register online.

Jewel of an event

It is September, the time when children have been sent off to school, the scent of apples wafts through the air as the leaves start to change and the library's annual ladies' fund-raiser is here. The sixth annual ladies' soirée, Just Jewels, is Sunday, Sept. 25 from 6 - 8 p.m. The highlight of the evening is the silent auction of bedazzled jewelry and other items that sparkle, all to benefit the library's technology and programs funds. Many local area merchants, crafts people and jewelry designers are lending their resources for this evening. Hors d'oeuvres and wine along with good company accompany this special event. The cost is $25 per person. Reservations can be made in advance by calling the library at 762-3950, Ext. 216 or registering online. Attendees also will be welcome at the door.
