Playing nice at the library

Parents of preschoolers learn about successful play dates on Friday, Jan. 20 from 1 - 3 p.m. when Beth Gallos and Jill Maller-Kesselman discuss Friendship and the Preschooler. Both Ms. Gallos and Ms. Maller-Kesselman are psychologists in the Wilton School district who are well versed in developmental relationships of preschoolers. Discussion topics include developmentally appropriate expectations for play in preschoolers and problem solving for preschool conflicts. There is no charge for the program. Music with strings attached

The Norwalk Symphony Family Program (Not) Just for Kids continues on Saturday, Jan. 21 from 1 - 3 p.m. for children 3 - 10 and their families. Children will experience a performance by members of the string section of the orchestra. An informal setting for the group allows children to become familiar with the instruments up close and personally. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. Organic farming discussed

The library and Ambler Farm co-sponsor a visiting author talk with Scott Chaskey, author of This Common Ground: Seasons on an Organic Farm on Sunday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. A pioneer of the community farming movement, Mr. Chaskey has farmed for the Peconic Land Trust at Quail Farm in Amagansett, New York for the past fifteen years. He also serves on the Northeast Organic Farming Association of New York and on the board for the Center for Whole Communities in Vermont. A Renaissance man, he has worked as poet-in-residence in numerous schools and museums and for more than twenty years has taught poetry to children of all ages. There is no charge for the program. Story Times begin

Winter Story Times for children ages 6 months to five years begin on Monday, Jan. 23 through Thursday, March 9 at various times and dates through the seven-week program. Starting with this session, babies from 6 - 11 months also will be included in the schedule as follows: 6 - 11 month olds are on Wednesdays from 10:15 - 10:45; Ones on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:15 - 10:45; Twos on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:15 - 10:45; Threes on Tuesdays from 11:30 - noon and Wednesdays from 1 - 1:30; Fours and Fives on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2 - 2:45. Babies, Ones and Twos must be accompanied by adults. There is no charge for Winter Story Times. Advance registration is required. Call 762-3950 or register online. Seniors book group meets

The Senior Center Book Discussion takes place on Tuesday, Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. with Bill Ziegler leading the group on A Room with a View by E. M. Foster. The group meets every fourth Tuesday of each month through May. Call the Senior Center at Comstock Community Center to register: 834-6240.

Wilton Reads! film screening

As a part of the Wilton Reads! community-wide reading of Pete Hamill's Snow in August, the library is having a free screening of the Showtime movie on Tuesday, Jan. 24 starting at 7 p.m. The relationship between the rabbi and Michael comes to life by Oscar-nominated actor Stephen Rea and Peter Tambakis respectively. The Wilton Reads! event finishes with a talk by the author himself, Pete Hamill on Thursday, Feb. 2 at 7:30. Attendees will gain insight from the author on the meaning of this novel about tolerance and understanding. The Wilton Reads! program is sponsored by The Wilton Bank, The Wilton Bulletin and United Way of Norwalk & Wilton. There are no charges for the programs. Advance registration is suggested. Golf in winter

The Second Annual Men's Night Out: Miniature Golf Among the Classics is right around the corner on Friday, Feb. 3 from 7:30 - 10:30 p.m. An evening of miniature golf among the stacks, competitive games, a silent auction, a Valentine's Day boutique and abundant food from Luca's, Chez Lenard and Barcelona Restaurant await the attendees. The "greens" fees for the event are $50 per person. The fund-raiser benefits the library's collection and technology funds. The Platinum sponsor for the event is The Wilton Bank.
