Boys' sleepover at library

The sixteenth annual children's Lights Out at the Library sleepover takes place tomorrow night from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m. on Saturday morning for boys in grades 2-4. The fun night out at the library includes games, stories, snacks, a little sleeping and breakfast served in the morning before the library opens. The event is hosted by the Children's Library staff and some very brave parents. Each year, the sleepover alternates between boys and girls with this year's set for the boys. Although the registration for the sleepover is full, this is a reminder to parents that the sleepover if this Friday night. Snow date for the event if Feb. 10.

Fantasy tales told

Saturdays are good days to be entertained by dragons, witches and goblins, or at least stories about them in Folklore and Fantasy. The group gets together this Saturday, Jan. 28 from 2 - 3 pm. for children in grades K - 3. Additional Saturdays are Feb. 11 and 25 and March 11 and 25. There are no charges for the programs. Art teachers unite

The opening artists' reception for the Wooster Community Art Faculty is on Sunday, Jan. 29 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. This group of six artists is a partial representation of the talent that exists at the school in Danbury. The faculty includes Bobbi Eike Mullen from Weston, a popular artist who has exhibited many times at the library. According to the school's Web site, the Wooster Community Art Program was started in 1965 with a grant by the Ford Foundation. The school's mission was to be an art department for the Wooster School and to be available as the community art center. Today, professional artists and teachers provide classes in various media to more than 35 communities around the region. The exhibition will be open during library hours through Monday, Feb. 27. A whole generation of Winter Olympics enthusiasts can remember where they were when they heard Al Michaels exclaim, "Do you believe in miracles?" Another generation was reintroduced to the phrase in the recent Disney movie, Miracle. Acclaimed sportswriter Wayne Coffey will share the untold story of a coach, a dream and the 1980 U.S. Olympic Hockey team on Sunday, Jan. 29 at 2 p.m. based on his book, The Boys of Winter. He brings new details to his account of that fabled night of February 22, 1980 right in time for the excitement of this year's Olympics in Torino. There is no charge for the Visiting Author program. Snow in August author at library

Pete Hamill, author of Snow in August, will share his thoughts and insights into the book chosen as this year's Wilton Reads! selection at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 2. at the library. This is the culminating event of the three-month project that included two book discussions, a movie screening, and reading and discussion of the book by the sophomore English classes at Wilton High School. The Wilton Bulletin provided free copies to the community and the Wilton Bank and United Way of Norwalk & Wilton generously funded grants that made the author's appearance possible. While the whipping winter winds wreak havoc on the outside, the golf games going on inside will be toasty warm at the library's second annual Men's Night Out: Miniature Golf Among the Classics on Friday, Feb. 3 starting at 7:30 p.m. The fund-raiser benefits the library's collection and technology funds. The event includes a weather-impervious miniature golf course, competitive games, abundant food and drink from Luca's Ristorante, hot dogs from Chez Lenard and cocktails from Barcelona Restaurant. A silent auction includes fine wines and scotches, cigars, kayaking instruction, a weekend at Martha's Vineyard and much more. Also included is the Valentine's boutique which was such a big hit at last year's fund-raiser. Flowers, jewelry and chocolates are the tantalizing orders that will be taken for Valentine's Day.
