Call for donated booksThe worst of the winter weather probably has not arrived yet, but the library's four-day annual book sale is right around the corner starting April 1. To make this the biggest and best book sale fund-raiser in the library's history, the co-chairs Jan MacEwen and Jan Galletly have been collecting books since days after last year's sale was over. With materials collected throughout the year, including the first tie-in to Wilton's Hazardous Collection Day this past fall, the sale should be well over 40,000 items divided into more than 50 categories. The big push for books, DVDs and CDs is now through Friday, March 10, the last day that donated items will be accepted at the library for the April sale. This year's sale will be in the newly-created Book Cellar, in the clean, well-lit basement of the expansion. People with attics full of books may call the co-chairs to have their materials picked up for the sale. The numbers to call for large quantity pick ups are 227-8502 or (203)377-1831. Patrons bringing donated items to the library may place them in the gray bin at the library's former employees' entrance on Godfrey Place. The blue book drop bin in the driveway between the library and the bank is for library items only, not donated materials. A receipt for the donated items may be picked up at the circulation desk or the drive-thru window during library hours. For more information: 762-3950.
New library cards availableTo paraphrase Rita Dove, former U.S. Poet Laureate, if "the library is the door onto the world," the new green library card at Wilton Library is the passkey. The striking, green colored card is easy to identify in a wallet and comes with a mini-card that fits on a key chain, making access to the library's books, DVDs, CDs and Internet readily-available in the palm of one's hand. The key-chain card is particularly convenient to use when placing an item on hold through the online catalogue or using the myriad databases, all available through the library's Web site at www.wiltonlibrary.org. Any new Wilton resident requesting a library card will be receiving the new one. Current card holders may upgrade to this new convenience for one dollar, offsetting the cost of the card. Replacement cards also will be one dollar. For more information, call 762-3950.
Reminder: The library will be closed on Sunday and Monday, Feb. 19 and 20 for the President's Day holiday.
