This Saturday, the annual event, Big Kids Reading to Little Kids, is at the library from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Wilton High School students in the National Honor Society read stories to kids in grades K-3. Digital photography this weekendMichael and Mary Anne Franco lead the discussion on preserving photos in the Digital Photography seminar, Scan and Restore Your Precious Photos, from 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 4. Color and lighting corrections and sharing photos are just some of the topics to be discussed. There is no charge for the Digital Photography classes which are demonstration style at the library. Visiting Authors at libraryLocal area author Peter Spiegelman discusses his latest thriller, Death's Little Helpers, on Sunday, March 5 at 2 p.m. at the library in the Visiting Author program. He also will discuss his first mystery, Black Maps, for which he won a Shamus award and his upcoming untitled thriller which will be published next winter. Books will be available for purchase and signing.
Wilton resident Susan E. B. Schwartz discusses her new book, Into the Unknown: The Remarkable Life of Hans Kraus on Thursday, March 9 at 7 p.m. Hans Kraus was a medical pioneer in muscles and fitness, making him one of the founders of sports medicine. His work with children led him to head up the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports and his work on back pain involved him with the Kennedy White House. Along with his accomplishments as a physician, he was an extraordinarily gifted rock climber. Ms. Schwartz is an avid rock climber, scuba instructor, shipwreck divemaster and marathoner. Winter Story Times endingThis is the last week for Winter Story Times, but just like spring itself, Spring Story Times are right around the corner. The new session for the spring start the week of March 27 and end the week of May 1. Session times are as follows: Babies (6-11 months) meet on Wednesdays starting March 29 from 10:15-10:45; Ones are on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:15-10:45 starting March 28 and 30; Twos gather on Tuesdays and Wednesdays also from 10:15-10:45 starting March 28 and 29. Threes meet at different times depending upon the day-Tuesdays from 11:20-12 starting March 28 and Wednesdays from 1-1:30 starting March 29. Fours and Fives meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2-2:45 starting March 27 and 28. Babies, Ones and Twos must be accompanied by adults. There is no charge for the Spring Story Times. Babysitting course offeredBabysitting Training through the American Red Cross is being offered at the library on Tuesday, March 7 and Wednesday, March 8 from 4-7 p.m. The two-part program covers the basics in babysitting safety tips for kids ages 11-15. The cost for the program is $50 per child. Advance payment is required at the time of registration. There is limited seating. Children are reminded to bring snacks to both sessions. Library going to the dogsThe sound of dog tags and paws may be heard at the library on Saturday, March 18 from 2-3 p.m. when a group of very special dogs become part of the Read to Rover program. Students in grades 1-5 can have fun reading to certified therapy dogs for 20 minutes during the session. These gentle dogs have been trained to relax and sit quietly while the children practice their reading-aloud skills. There is no charge for the program.
