Children's concert free at libraryThe woodwind quintet, The Prevailing Winds of Connecticut, returns to the library on Saturday, April 8 from 1-2 p.m. to entertain children with a free concert. Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf will be performed by Ralph Kirmser (oboe), Richard Epstein (bassoon), Kathy Sumerow (flute), Janet Atherton (clarinet) and Stewart Edelstein (French horn). Poetry month celebrated with two programsBen Van Vechten is the discussion leader for two poetry programs this week in celebration of Poetry Month. On Sunday, April 9 from 2-3:30 p.m., Mr. Van Vechten leads the group in the seminar, Poetry is a Lot of Fun: A Poetry Lecture with Ben Van Vechten. On Thursday April 13 from 10:30 to noon, Mr. Van Vechten begins his 5-part poetry series entitled More Poetry with Ben Van Vechten: Five and Three-Fifths Poets. Techniques of five different poets (plus 3 poems from Dylan Thomas) are examined. The five poets are Emily Dickinson, E. E. Cummings, William Carlos Williams, Marianne Moore and W. H. Auden. The group meets on consecutive Thursdays -- April 13, 20, 27, May 4 and 11. Poetry packets are available at the front desk to be read before the two programs. Women's Wellness series continuesAging and menopause are discussed in the Wellness series' third part when Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo discusses Aging & Menopause - Strategies for Fighting Them Naturally with the Blood Type Diet at 7 on Tuesday, April 11.
