Children who come to the Norwalk Symphony Family (Not) Just for Kids program from 1-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 15 will have a chance to bang the drums loudly when the percussion ensemble visits the library. Chess instruction beginsChess instruction for beginners through advanced players in grades K-12 begins on Wednesday, April 19 for six consecutive Wednesdays with the Wilton Library Chess Club. Kids will learn basic instruction, opening and closing moves and strategies. Instruction is given by Richard (RJ) Chambers, WHS Chess Club president. The program fee is $20 per child. See the Movie; Read the Book: Pride and PrejudiceJoanna Ecke and Jean Brey lead a two-part seminar Read the Book & See the Movie: Pride and Prejudice in which the novel and the various film versions will be discussed. There will be a free screening of the recently-released Pride and Prejudice starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen on Wednesday, April 19 at 7. Home and Garden series springs up at libraryWith daffodils popping up in gardens, flowerbeds and berms all over town, the timing is right for the library's Home & Garden Series, a six-part series starting with Finials and Follies-A Look at Architectural Garden Features on Thursday, April 20 at 7 p.m. Darrin Duling, a principal in a landscaping and interior design firm in Greenwich discusses classic and contemporary styles of architectural garden art. Duling, a landscaper, shows examples including stairs, walls, gates, and benches ranging in scale from intimate to grand. Universal Design for learning discussedOn Friday, April 21 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m., Kathleen Whitbread, Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Associate Director of the University of Connecticut Center on Disabilities, discusses how the concept of Universal Design is being applied to school environments. Ms. Whitbread examines the issues of making curricula more flexible to accommodate learner differences. The program is co-sponsored by SPED*NET and the library.
