With Mother's Day this weekend, children still have a chance to make a wonderful gift for moms, grandmas or aunts during Create Your Own Mother's Day Memento at the library on Friday and Saturday, May 12 and 13. Children of all ages may drop in at any time during library hours and draw, cut, paste and color to their hearts content. Materials are supplied by the library. Special story timesA Special Guest Reader Story Time is happening at the library on Friday, May 12 from 11-11:30 a.m. for children ages 1-5. Kyle Nobles, a multi-talented dad, reads to boys and girls during this fun half-hour story time.
On Thursday, May 18, children ages 3-5 can come to the library in their jammies with their blankets ready for Sleepytime Story Time from 6:15-6:45 p.m. They will be read wonderful stories to get them ready to sleep before they go home to dream sweet dreams. Saving precious photosMother's Day, Father's Day, graduations, weddings, moving up ceremonies - these are the times that photo-taking is so special and losing those photos would be disastrous. Michael and Mary Anne Franco may ease peoples minds on Saturday, May 13 from 11:30-1:30 in their seminar, Digital Photography: Catalog Your Photos Using Adobe Photoshop Elements. During the session the Francos discuss organizing photos and backing up drives. The class is demonstration style and the last one in this series. There is no charge for the program. Special needs workshop follow-upCarrie Banks, director of The Child's Place for Children with Special Needs at Brooklyn Public Library, returns to Wilton Library for a follow-up program, Workshop on Working with Special Needs Children and their Families on Wednesday, May 17 from 8:30-noon. The workshop is for library, educational and caregiver professionals who support families with special needs children including those with hearing, sight, physical motor and cognitive disabilities and autism. The workshop will have an emphasis on role-playing. The program is funded in part by a grant from the Federal LSTA which is administered by the Connecticut State Library. Home & Garden Series wrapsOn Thursday, May 18 at 7 p.m., the final installment of the library's Home & Garden Series is set with Designer Tips-Staging Homes for Selling and Decorating Solutions. Local interior designers and home stagers Olga Adler, Mimi Swerdlow and Beth Holland show before-and-after pictures of their work and discuss tips on how to eliminate clutter, how to make homes appealing to most buyers, how to get the most out of rearranging accessories and furniture for eye appeal, how to add decorative flourishes and enhance curb appeal. SPED*NET at libraryUnderstanding Behavior and Learning Challenges from a New Perspective on Friday, May 19 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. is this month's SPED*NET discussion at the library. Sally Brockett, M.A., Director of the IDEA Training and Consultation Center, North Haven, educator, special education consultant and auditory training practitioner discusses auditory integration therapy, vision therapy, brain gym, sensory integration, nutritional intervention, sacro-cranial therapy and other innovative therapies.
