Late day story time

The library has a special treat for children ages 3-5 this evening with Sleepytime Story Time from 6:15-6:45. Kids can come to the library in their jammies with their blankets for some wonderful stories right before bedtime. Home and Garden Series wraps up

Learning how to prepare a home for resale or sprucing it up with decorating ideas are the topics for the last session of the Home & Garden Series: Designer Tips-Staging Homes for Selling and Decorating Solutions tonight at 7 p.m. Local designer Olga Adler provides illuminating before and after photos of home transformations and gives the audience tips on how to create exciting looks by removing clutter and rearranging furniture for the most optimum appeal. SPED*NET behavior seminar at library

The SPED*NET seminar at the library on Friday, May 19 from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. is Understanding Behavior and Learning Challenges from a New Perspective. Sally Brockett, M.A., the director of the IDEA Training and Consultation Center in North Haven, will address topics that include auditory integration therapy, vision therapy, brain gym, sensory integration, nutritional intervention, sacro-cranial therapy among other innovative therapies. Seniors discuss Bin Laden relative

The Senior Center Book Discussion takes place on Tuesday, May 23 at 11 a.m. at the Comstock Community Center. Barbara Jones will discuss Inside the Kingdom: My Life in Saudi Arabia by Carmen bin Laden, who was married to Osama bin Laden's brother. This is the last session until the fall. Alternative divorce actions discussed

Maurice Segall, an attorney mediator, discusses Divorce and Family Mediation: An Alternative Approach on Thursday, May 25 at 7 p.m. Divorce is a hard subject to discuss in the open, but Segall brings a non-adversarial, less expensive and faster method to resolution. Topics include the differences between "traditional" divorce litigation and family mediation, the advantages of mediation, the role an attorney plays in mediated divorce and other matters that can be arbitrated such as family disputes, prenuptial agreements and post-divorce disputes. Mr. Segall is an experienced attorney mediator who is a Practitioner Member and past board member of the Connecticut Council for Divorce Mediation and Family Dispute Resolution, a Practitioner Member of the Association for Conflict Resolution and is a consultant mediator with the Stamford Counseling Center. Da Vinci Code: Read the Book, See the Movie

With tomorrow's release of the much-talked-about movie, The Da Vinci Code, the library plans to add to the discussion with the seminar, The Da Vinci Code Demystified on Thursday, June 1 at 7 p.m. Dr. Paul Lakeland, Professor of Catholic Studies and Director of Fairfield University's Center for Catholic Studies, will help untangle the fact from fiction of The Da Vinci Code story through the mix of history, art and religion. Dr. Lakeland will discuss topics such as Mary Magdalene, Opus Dei, Leonardo Da Vinci's Last Supper and the Knights of the Templar. Dr. Lakeland was chosen 2005 Teacher of the Year by students at the University and is a member of the American Academy of Religion, where he currently chairs the Theology and Religious Reflection Section, and the Catholic Theological Society of America. He is an editor for "Religious Studies Review," a member of the editorial board of "Cross Currents," co-editor of the Fortress Press series, "Guides to Theological Inquiry," and co-convener of the independent ecumenical association of systematic and constructive theologians, The Workgroup for Constructive Theology. Participants are encouraged to see the movie before the discussion in the Read the Book/See the Movie series. The library has discounted Crown Theatre movie passes that may be purchased for $7.50 each and can be used at any Crown Theatre in the area at any time. As of this writing, The Da Vinci Code is expected to be shown at the Wilton Crown Theatres on River Road. Purchasers save a little bit on the movie price and Crown Theatres contribute a little bit to the library.
