Sleepytime Story Time was a huge success at the library last month and tonight the staff of the Children's Library is presenting it again from 6:15-6:45. Children ages 3-5 can come to the library ready for bed in their jammies and slippers with blankets and cuddlies in tow to hear wonderful stories where they then return home to have sweet dreams.
Another special story time is being set aside for this age group on Friday, June 9 from 5-5:30 in Friday Afternoon Story Time. Kids can come in their regular clothes for this half-hour of fun stories. There is no charge for either program. Advance registration is suggested for both. DaVinci Code discussedTonight starting at 7, Dr. Paul Lakeland addresses issues found in the popular book and movie, DaVinci code discussed. As the director of Fairfield University's Center for Catholic Studies, Dr. Lakeland helps untangle fact from fiction by helping the audience understand the history, art and religion raised in the book. Wilton Chamber of Commerce events at libraryThe library and the Wilton Chamber of Commerce are co-sponsoring The Certifiable Salesperson on Friday, June 2 from 9:30-11 a.m. Laura Laaman, a speaker, author, trainer and columnist, shares her proven selling techniques with attendees. On Thursday, June 15 the Wilton Chamber of Commerce Table Top Expo takes place at the library from 4-7 p.m. in the Brubeck Room. The event which is co-sponsored by the library and the Chamber showcases local businesses to present their products to the public and to the Chamber membership. ArtWhirl exhibition starts FridayArtWhirl, a collaborative group of artists, opens their exhibition on Friday, June 2 from 6 - 7:30 p.m. at the library with a reception for their show, "Passages: A Journey of 7 Artists." The informal group shares their passion for art which shows in the diverse styles, media and subjects that are on display through Thursday, June 29. The artists in the group are Deborah K. Flavin, Paul Heifetz, Bill Moran, Bobbie Eike Mullen, Erin Nazzaro, Andy Neilly and Ellin Spadone. Using oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics, and collages with mixed media, the group's works represent a broad spectrum of styles. Teens' work recognizedThe library will be celebrating another group with an art reception on Monday, June 5 when the Teen Mural Art Reception takes place at 5 p.m. The murals were created by a group of dedicated students who worked many hours to transform the Teen area into their space. Working with Tom Swick, a library staffer who is an accomplished artist in his own right, they collaborated on two elaborate designs that have now come to life. The students being honored for their work are Nick Burgess, Jilyn Chao, Jihan Chao, Lauren Cody, Christina Chung, Shaina Fogel, Amber Goold, Marshall Knutson, Jenny Lauricella, Katie Lauricella, Katharine Mandia, Lillian Mucci, Miri Park and Barbara Perry. Annual meetingThe library's Annual Wilton Library Association Friends of the Library meeting takes place on Sunday, June 11 starting at 4 p.m. This year's meeting is a dedication and celebration of the newly-completed expansion/renovation. Leslie Burger, president-elect of the American Library Association will be the guest speaker. Ms. Burger worked closely with the Future of the Wilton Library Committee when the expansion was just a wonderful dream. A general meeting also will be held which includes the election of officers for the coming year. The meeting is open to the public. The library will close at 4 p.m. on Sunday.
