Library dedication and celebrationWith the final phases of the library expansion/renovation completed, the library is celebrating its new space at the 111th annual Friends of the Library meeting on Sunday, June 11, starting at 4 p.m. The guest speaker is Leslie Burger, president-elect of the American Library Association and Princeton Public Library director. Ms. Burger was involved in the initial planning of the expansion when she worked with the Future of the Library Committee, drawing up the vision that has become the reality. In addition to Ms. Burger's talk, election of officers and presentation of awards will take place. Following the regular meeting, a tour of the new library will be held, with a brief dedication ceremony and celebration rounding out the festivities. Businesses share waresThe library and the Wilton Chamber of Commerce co-sponsor a Table Top Expo on Thursday, June 15 from 4-7 p.m. Local businesses will have an opportunity to demonstrate their products/services to other businesses and to consumers. Call the Chamber for information: 762-0567.
Summer reading program beginsThe library's summer reading program for children, Read, Recycle & Renew, kicks off on Wednesday, June 14. The program which is sponsored by the Betsy and Jesse Fink Foundation features crafts, educational programs with accompanying crafts, field trips, drop-in story times and drop-in crafts all centered around the theme of the environment and the human impact on it. Children can come in any time Wednesday through Saturday to create their own environment emblem to keep track of their reading activities. Crafty creations for kidsChildren can make special Father's Day mementos on Friday and Saturday, June 16 and 17 any time during the day during Drop-In Father's Day Crafts. The materials are set up in the Craft Room for children of any age to come in and make something for their dads and grandfathers. On Monday and Tuesday, June 19 and 20, children can stop in any time to make the first of many crafts using a theme from the Read, Recycle & Renew summer reading program sponsored by the Betsy and Jesse Fink Foundation. Visiting Author returns to libraryKatharine Weber, author of The Music Lesson and The Little Women, returns to the library to discuss her latest novel, Triangle, based on the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire of 1911. Teens get trainedJust in time for summer babysitting and mother's helper jobs, the library is offering Babysitting Training from the American Red Cross on Wednesday and Thursday, June 21 and 22 from 4-7 p.m. This two-part training course is offered on consecutive evenings to better meet kids schedules. The fee to the Red Cross is $50 per child for kids ages 11-15. Advance payment is required at the time of registration. The seating is limited so it is suggested that any child interested sign up soon. Attendees are reminded to bring a snack. To register, call 762-3950.
