Wilton native Jeff Harding returns to the library this evening for a turn at the Summer Music & More Concert Series from 5-6:30 p.m. Harding, accompanied by Frank Licari, plays a mix of original acoustic rock and covers from other popular artists. The concerts are free, along with the food and refreshments. The last date on the schedule is next Thursday, July 27 with a variation of The Wingnuts playing. Movietime for kidsKids get a break from the summer heat with Reel Fridays at the library tomorrow, July 21 at 10:30 and 2. The movies are Doogal in the morning and Chronicles of Narnia in the afternoon both will be shown on a large screen projection system. Children under 5 must be accompanied by adults. The movies are free, along with the popcorn and lemonade. Additional movie dates for kids are August 4 with Winnie the Pooh's Grand Adventure and 8 Below and August 11 with Chicken Little and Nanny McPhee. Registration is not required. Garbage themed crafts and clean upFollowing the road trip to the Garbage Museum in Stratford, next week kids can look forward to a craft program and a garbage walk in Wilton Center as a part of the Read, Recycle & Renew summer reading program. In the craft program on Tuesday, July 25 from 2-3 p.m., kids ages 3-7 will make a garbage monster craft. Story time, craft and refreshments are all part of the fun. The materials fee for the program is $5 per child/$4 for Young Readers. Advance registration is required by calling 762-3950. On Thursday, July 27, staffers Lesley Keogh and Laura Schwemm will lead children on a walk through the Center to pick up trash. Children should bring rubber gloves to wear. Any child under the age of 7 must be accompanied by an adult. Participants will meet in the Children's Library craft room and return there after the walk. Movies for teensTeen Movie Tuesdays on July 25 at 5 features Monty Python and the Holy Grail, the original movie from which the Broadway show, Spamalot, was created. Kids in grades 7-12 can come with friends and enjoy a hilarious movie on the library's large screen projection system. Popcorn and the movie are free. Reservations are not needed. Big flap at libraryThere may be a lot of ruffled feathers about a program at the library on Wednesday, July 26. Wind over Wings-Laughing Kookaburra, part of the Read, Recycle & Renew summer reading program takes place from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Live birds come to the library in this special program designed for children. A laughing kookaburra, an owl, a parrot, a cockatoo and a macaw astound kids with their remarkable abilities. The program is interactive, humorous and gives children a lot of opportunities to ask questions. The summer reading program is sponsored by the Betsy and Jesse Fink Foundation. A wizard's birthday partyProfessors Minerva McGonagall and Sibyll Trelawney invite children in grades 4-8 to attend a very special Happy Birthday, Harry! at the library on Friday, July 28 from 7-8:30 p.m. Kids will enjoy Hogwarts Jeopardy, raffles, prizes and birthday cake at the Harry Potter birthday party. Kids also will be able to sit in on a special demonstration class with a new potions teacher (kids will actually see some real science taking place). Harry will be there along with Draco, Hagrid, Professors Snape, Dumbledore, McGonagall and Trelawney. Kids are encouraged to come in costume. Advance reservations required.
