Poetry program set in motion

Poetry in Motion: An Exploration of Diversity is a new initiative undertaken by the library for teens in grades 7-12. The program encourages kids to submit their original poetry centered on the theme of diversity and tolerance. The submissions will be reviewed by a student board culminating in the selected pieces being performed during a two-night event of poetry and art in March 2007 in the Brubeck Room. Students were introduced to the program at the end of the school year in the spring. Submissions must be received by Friday, September 22 and may be sent to teenpoetry@wiltonlibrary.org. The program is sponsored by the library with funding from Fairfield County Community Foundation, Connecticut Humanities Council and the John and Patricia Curran Teen Fund. For more information, contact Teen Librarian Susan Lauricella by phone or by email.

Activities for preschoolers

While big brothers and sisters go off to school, the little ones left at home will have things to do when they come to the library during Young Readers Round-up week. From music, to story times to creative crafts, kids will be busy at the library with no time to think about missing their siblings. Robert the Guitar Guy comes on Tuesday, August 29 from 11-11:45. His program of music, movement and role-playing is fun for children and adults alike. Advance registration is suggested for the program. There is no charge. Call 762-3950 or register online. On Wednesday, August 30, children ages 2-5 are invited to drop-in story time from 10:15-10:45. Kids ages 4-6 will have their own session from 2-2:30. There is no charge for the Drop-In Story Times and no reservations either. The Drop-In Craft for the week is on Thursday, August 31 from 10-3. Children can stop by during those hours to make their creations with supplies provided by the Children's Library. There is neither a charge nor reservations required. For information about any of these activities, call 762-3950.

Library now provides access to 24 hour information service

The library is introducing a new service called InfoAnytime. This 24/7 reference and tutoring service supplements the library's reference staff when the library is closed. To reach InfoAnytime, patrons log on to the library's Web site at www.wiltonlibrary.org/research/infoanytime.htm and click on the InfoAnytime logo on the homepage to be connected to an InfoAnytime librarian. The 24/7 service uses the library's online databases and other web-based resources. Patrons may continue to call Wilton Library's reference librarians during library hours at 762-3950, ext. 211. The library is open Monday and Friday 10-6, Tuesday through Thursday 10-7, Saturday 10-5 and resumes Sunday hours from 1-5 starting September 10. Questions about the service may be directed to Mary Anne Franco, Head of Technology Services for the library at 762-3950, ext. 210.
