Water, water everywhere

The library will be inundated with water in September and yet none of the library staff will be upset when Norwalk resident John Harris has his opening art reception on Friday, September 8 from 6-7:30 p.m. Water will be the main subject strikingly depicted when Harris exhibits his oils on canvas. Harris, a past member of the United States Canoe and Kayak team and an owner of medals from his many rowing accomplishments has spent countless hours reflecting, gazing and being mesmerized by water's properties. All of the many moods of water are captured intricately on his canvases from gently flowing brooks and streams to more turbulent outings. According to Harris, "My subjects are lakes, rivers and oceans. There is an infinite amount of imagery displayed by nature. This is especially true with water, characteristics I want to capture in oil." The exhibit is open during library hours through Friday, September 29. The paintings will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. For more information: (203) 762-3950.

Ladies' soirée fund-raiser on a September Sunday at Six

Silly, Serious and Sensational Services on a September Sunday at Six is the library's seventh annual ladies' soirée fund-raiser on Sunday, September 10 from 6-8 p.m. The event is a silent auction of services from spa treatments to landscaping and everything in between. According to Judy Higby, event chair, "This yearly gathering has become the go-to event for women coming together after the summer activities. With young kids newly ensconced in schools, older kids packed up and sent away to college, it is the perfect time for ladies to meet, renew friendships and indulge themselves with a little pampering for a very good cause-the library." Some of the items being auctioned off include use of a private home in Martha's Vineyard, a private tarot card reading with master reader and author Jane Stern, interior design staging consultations, and a birthday party complete with crafts at the library. Hors d'oeuvres and beverages will be served. The fund-raiser is $50 per person. People wishing to attend may make their reservations by calling the library at 762-3950 ext. 270.
