Senior Center Book Group convenesMike McEneaney, a library staffer, leads the first Senior Center Book Group discussion on Tuesday, September 26 at 11 a.m. with The Rebels of Ireland: The Dublin Saga by Edward Rutherfurd. McEneaney's love of the green isle enhances the experience for participants. The group meets every fourth Tuesday of each month through May (except December). Teens "risk" stakes in stocksTeens have an opportunity to learn about the world of high finance when the Stock Market Game for Teens gets underway on Thursday, September 28 at 4 p.m. In this 10-week program, kids in grades 7-12 learn the inside scoop on the stock market, using real-time portfolios with a live trading simulation. Kids register in teams of 4 and compete with other teams around the country. Library resources are utilized for the games (both in print and online) for the students to make their investment decisions. Mike McEneaney, a busy library staffer (see above) and stock market guru who ran the popular session last year, is back to give students on-going guidance. The game is endorsed by the National Council on Economic Education. The program runs on consecutive Thursdays from 4-5 p.m. (no session on 11/23) through December 7. End of day story timeChildren ages 3-5 get to come to the library on Thursday, September 28 from 6-6:30 p.m. for a special Sleepytime Story Time. Sweden discussed in international groupThe International Book Group: Literature of Other Lands meets on Thursday, September 28 from 7-8:30 p.m. with guest leader Gorel Bogarde talking about her native Sweden using the novel, Blackwater by Kerstin Ekman as the genesis of the discussion. Blackwater is the first novel by the award-winning Swedish author to be translated into English. Her works are widely publicized in Scandinavia and Europe. In addition to the book discussion, international desserts are served to the group. There is no charge for the International Book Group program. Advance registration is suggested. Symphony program for kids and familiesOn Saturday, September 30 the first of a four-part symphony series begins from 2-3 p.m. for children ages 3-10 and their families The Norwalk Symphony Family Program (Not) Just for Kids provides an up close and personal experience for children to enjoy the different parts of the orchestra. Saturday's performance is with the woodwind section. Children will have an opportunity to try their hand with the instruments. Additional dates are October 28 strings, January 27 percussion and April 7 brass. The program series is sponsored by The Wilton Bank. There is no charge for the series.
