Online health information

Reference librarians Mary Anne Franco and Carolyn Benjamin help people sort through the maze of medical information available online in tonight's program, Finding and Evaluating Print and Electronic Health Resources at 7. This continuation of the Wilton Library Wellness Month series provides people with the basics for finding health care information electronically that may make them better advocates for themselves or loved ones. The information gained in this session is to enhance the doctor/patient relationship, not to replace it. Mary Anne Franco is known for her computer classes at the library and Carolyn Benjamin oversees the library's technical services department. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. Call 762-3950 or register online. The last seminar in the series is on Tuesday, October 24 on Chiropractic Care-An Informative Discussion at 7 with Dr. Elihu Rosen.

Weekend celebration

There are a number of activities this weekend that celebrate the library and benefit everyone involved. The Children's Book Sale takes place this Friday, October 20 from 3-6 p.m. and continues on Saturday from 10-5. On Saturday, Skip Ploss, local children's author, will have readings and signings at 1:30, 2 and 2:30. His books will be available for purchase. The book sale features picture books, chapter books, series, young adult books, DVDs, videos and a silent auction in the Brubeck Room. The library benefits from the sale of these gently-used items donated through the generosity of the community. The way in which the library receives so many books is through the Used Book Collection Day, part of the Hazardous Material Day also on Saturday, October 21. From 9-3, a truck will be set up at Cider Mill parking lot for the community to drop off their book donations as they proceed to Middlebrook for the hazardous waste collection. All of the library's book sales-the annual sale, the children's book sale and the year-round lobby sales-benefit from these donations.

From 11-2 on Saturday, the library will have its second annual Discovery Day. This lively event features a free barbecue lunch, live music by Bob Riccio and his Dixieland Band outside on the front patio (weather permitting) from 1 1 and a musical demonstration by Arthur Lipner on his vibes from 1-2 . New products and services will be shown during Discovery Day such as downloadable audio books, the ELF e-mail notification system and the InfoAnytime 24/7 online reference service. Stewart Flowers will be giving a demonstration on how to create harvest floral arrangements from 11:30-12:30 with a few of them being given away. Representatives from Voter Registration will be on-hand with a demo of the new voting machine and with voter registration forms. In the Children's Library, a harvest craft will be set up for kids to make on their own in the Craft Room. Discovery Day is open for everyone to see what the library has to offer. For information: 762-3950.
