The library's new travel series begins tonight at 7 with Jane and Michael Stern discussing their recently published memoir, Two for the Road. The popular authors make their time spent on the road sound as delectable as one of the caramel rolls they sampled in North Dakota. They will be signing their books which will be available for purchase. The series continues on November 9 with library director Kathy Leeds providing information on Travel on the Web: You CAN Get There from Here. She will demonstrate how to use the Web to explore travel options-and book them. She discusses and demonstrates conventional destinations and travel means and also explores more specialized and unusual vacations. Ms. Leeds shares personal insights on everything from discovering bed and breakfast stays in Connecticut to finding the perfect villa in Tuscany or Provence-and discloses her favorite review and research sites.; November 16 Going Solo: Women Traveling Alone with Joan Pendergast, Judy Zucker and Judy White, founding president of a Wilton-based travel center; November 30 Distant Journeys with Daryl Hawk. Candlelight Concert this weekendThe Jacques Thibaud String Trio performs this Sunday, November 5 at 4 p.m. at the Congregational Church in a Wilton Candlelight Concert performance. Election Day animalsLesa Scheifele from The Lost Ark, an environmental and research program, brings live creatures to the library to teach kids about endangered species on Tuesday, November 7 from 10:30-11:30 a.m. There is no charge for the program. Registration and admittance will be on a first come, first served basis starting at 10. The first 150 people (children and caregivers) to register at the door will attend the program. Wilton Library Readers meetOn Wednesday, November 8, the Wilton Library Readers meet from noon-1:30 pm. to discuss Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami with group leader Susan Boyar. The group gets together the second Wednesday of each month through May (no meeting in December). There is no charge for the program and no registration. Hospice series beginsMid-Fairfield Hospice is sponsoring a 5-part series with the library beginning this Wednesday, November 8 with In the Midst of Winter Series: Hospice Enrichment at the End of Life, 4-5:30 p.m. Speaker Cynthia Roy, MSW, Executive Director of Mid-Fairfield Hospice, a partner of Nursing & Home Care will lead the discussion on hospice care. She will discuss how hospice can enrich the end of life on many levels whether physical comfort for the patient or emotional, spiritual and practical support for the families.
