The library continues its travel series this evening at 7 with Going Solo: Women Traveling Alone. Guest speakers and frequent solo travelers Joan Pendergast and Judy Zucker, along with Judy White, founding president of a Wilton-based travel center, discuss the "how to's" for women interested in traveling alone. Safety tips and strategies are explored along with destinations for memorable solo travel. The last session in the series is Thursday, November 30 with Distant Journeys with Daryl Hawk. International documentary photographer Daryl Hawk presents a slide show entitled "It's the Journey that Counts." His presentation is a retrospective of various expeditions and trips undertaken by Mr. Hawk all over the globe. The programs are free of charge. Advance registration is suggested. Chamber music on SundayThe library's chamber music concert series, Connecticut's Own, features a performance on Sunday, November 19 at 4 p.m. by the Connecticut Composers Group. The Group, a non-profit organization of composers living in or having ties to Connecticut, includes various instrumental and vocal performers. Founded in 1981 by 18 charter members, it has grown to over 50 from all regions of the state. Its composers represent diverse musical styles including such media as orchestral, choral, solo, chamber music, jazz, improvisational, folk, electronic and experimental music. The performers on Sunday include: Jennifer Foster, (vocal - soprano), Allen Brings (piano), Trio Esprit-Chelsea Starbuck Smith (violin), Carlyn Kessler (cello), Emily Watkins (piano), Sandro Russo (piano), Christina Rovics (vocal - soprano), Howard Rovics (piano, bowls and santoor), and Adam Grabois (cello). Wiggle and giggle through musicToddlers get to dance, squirm, shimmy and shake through the music provided by Robert the Guitar Guy on Tuesday, November 21 from 10:30-11 a.m. He incorporates music, rhythm, movement, humor, role-playing and props which make his performances fun for children and adults. There is no charge for the program. Registration and admittance will be on a first come, first served basis starting at 10. Free movies after ThanksgivingChildren get a holiday break on Friday, November 24 when they are treated to free movies at the library. The 10:30 screening is Curious George and the 2 p.m. show is Cars. Children under 5 must be accompanied by adults. The movies are free of charge as are the popcorn and lemonade. Registration is not required. The Day After Film Fun is sponsored by Louis Dreyfus Corporation.
Seniors discuss SinclairThe Senior Center Book Discussion on Tuesday, November 28 at 11 a.m. is with Ben Van Vechten leading the discussion of Main Street by Sinclair Lewis.
