Shop the library

Counting down the last hours of until gift giving, the library has a lot to offer last minute shoppers. From books, CDs and DVDs on the Holiday Bargain table, to library logo merchandise such as book bags, travel mugs and mouse pads to items for the library's collection from the Giving Tree, the library covers the gamut. People can even consider giving a Friends of the Library donation in someone's name, a Young Readers donation for baby's first Christmas or Hanukkah or a beautiful Wilton impressionistic painting by the December artist, Tina Waring. The library hours are today until 7, Friday until 6 and Saturday until 5. The library will be closed on Sunday and Monday, December 24 and 25. For information on any of these items, call 762-3950.

DVD rentals a bargain

This Friday and next are great bonus days for DVD rentals. With the library closed on Saturday and Sunday, December 24 and 25 and December 31 and January 1, patrons who take out DVDs on the Friday before the long weekends get extra bonus days for free. Normally a Friday rental would be due back on Sunday, but with the holiday weekends, patrons will have until Tuesday, December 26 and January 2 respectively to return the rented DVDs. Poets in January

With the crush of activity during the holidays it's easy for some programs to slip right by in the beginning of the New Year. Ben Van Vechten returns on Thursday, January 4, 2007 from 10:30 - noon with a 5-part program entitled, Yet Another Four Poets. Ben explores the writing techniques of four poets: Marianne Moore, W. H. Auden, Wallace Stevens and Philip Larkin. The sessions are on five consecutive Thursdays - January 4, 11, 18, 25 and February 1. Poetry packets are available at the front desk and can be picked up before the holidays. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is required. Call 762-3950 or register online.

Celebrating a living history

The first Sunday after the new year brings a contemplative time to the library with the Fifth Anniversary Screening of Recollections & Remembrances: Stories of Wilton's Yesterdays at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 7. Bob Russell, author of Wilton, CT, will introduce some of the "stars" of the video that was created for the town's bicentennial. The documentary was produced as a living oral history from individual interviews with thirty-two longtime Wilton residents recalling stories and memories of old time Wilton. The film is compiled with archival photographs, historical documents and current video images of the town. A question and answer period will follow the screening. The documentary will be available for purchase. The program is co-sponsored by the Wilton Historical Society. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is required. Call 762-3950 or register online.

Reminder: The library will be closed on Sunday and Monday, December 24 and 25 and Sunday and Monday, December 31 and January 1.
