Kwanzaa crafts for kids

Children have two more days of holiday crafts with Drop-in Kwanzaa Crafts today and tomorrow during library hours. Sample crafts are available on the tables for kids to follow in the craft room. Supplies are provided by the library. The crafts are free and there is no registration required. Children may bring friends and relatives to join them for the creative fun. Poetry discussion starts new year

The ever-popular Ben Van Vechten kicks off the new year with Yet Another Four Poets on Thursday, January 4 from 10:30-noon. This 5-part series on consecutive Thursdays (January 4, 11, 18, 25 and February 1) will explore four poets and their writing techniques. The poets to be discussed are Marianne Moore, W. H. Auden, Wallace Stevens and Philip Larkin. Poetry packets are available at the front desk before the seminar begins. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is required. January art exhibition opens this Friday

The opening artists' reception for "A View into the Gallery: A Selection of Fine Art from River Road Gallery" is Friday, January 5 from 6-7:30 p.m. The exhibit highlights five artists from this country and from Europe showcasing an array of media, subjects and styles. Portions of the proceeds will benefit the library. The exhibit runs through Tuesday, January 30. For information: 762-3950.

Wilton remembered

Carol and Bob Russell will host a fifth anniversary screening of Recollections & Remembrances: Stories of Wilton's Yesterdays at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 7 in the Brubeck Room. The documentary was produced as a living oral history from individual interviews with thirty-two longtime Wilton residents recalling stories and memories of old time Wilton. The film was compiled with archival photographs, historical documents and current video images of the town which capture the feeling of Wilton yesterday and today. Some of the "stars" of the video will be on-hand during the program. A question and answer period will follow the screening. DVDs and VHS videos will be available for purchase. The screening is co-sponsored with the Wilton Historical Society. Refreshments will be served. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is required. Call 762-3950 or register online.

Computer classes coming in January

With the library's new computer lab equipped by the grant from Praxair Corporation, a full schedule of hands-on classes is now available for registration. The first class is set for Tuesday, January 9 with Introduction to Computers-Files and Folders from 12-1:30 p.m. This hands-on class is limited to 10 participants. The library's computer guru, Mary Anne Franco, brings people into the computer world with a discussion and demonstration of hardware, software, file structure and programs on PCs (not Apple or Mac computers). Advance registration and payment is required. The fee for each hands-on class is $25 per person; $20 for Friends of the Library and seniors. Additional classes include Microsoft's Word, Excel and Powerpoint, databases, and mail merge with morning and evening classes provided for each. Call to register at 762-3950. Digital photography classes starting in January

With digital cameras flying out of the electronic stores this holiday season, Michael and Mary Anne Franco are reprising their digital photography classes right on time. The first session begins Saturday, January 13 from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. with How to Use That New Digital Camera. Michael will explain the basics of how to use a digital camera discussing the differences between auto and manual modes and delve into white balance adjustments, scene modes, forcing a flash, macro mode and so much more. The class is demonstration style. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. Call 762-3950 or register online.
