Celebrating Earth

Earth Day is being celebrated at the library on Sunday, April 22, from 1-4 p.m. with activities, demonstrations, a hybrid car, environmental crafts for kids, giveaways, and programs, all providing information about how individuals can help nurture the environment. In addition to informational tables from Wilton Garden Club, Friends of Ambler Farms, CT EarthNet, Cool-Air Clean Planet and others, three programs are being offered. From 1-2, children of all ages can learn about endangered animals and see a few of them first hand in Endangered Species by members of the Connecticut Audubon Center of Fairfield. Little People, Big Changes, with 3rd graders and group founders Alex Scaperotta and Jordan Reichgut, will present Kids Act to Stop Global Warming from 2:15-3. The group was started by children to take action to affect the world around them. Brendan Hanrahan of CT EarthNet is the speaker for Grassroots Up: How Connecticut Communities are Finding New Ways to Protect Our Environment from 3-4. He presents an overview of the many initiatives currently being led by local, community-based environmental groups around the state relating to environmental issues such as sprawl, transportation, pollution and more. Earth Day Celebration is funded by The Betsy and Jesse Fink Foundation for the library's Environmental Initiative. Call 762-3950 or register online.
