Gina McCarthy, the CT Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner, is speaking at the library tonight at 7. Her talk focuses on her initiative, "No Child Left Inside," which is designed to bring people outside to enjoy all that Connecticut state parks have to offer. The program is sponsored by the library, Wilton Land Trust, Weir Preserve, Weir Farm Art Center, Woodcock Nature Center, Wilton Garden Club, Wilton Conservation Commission, CT EarthNet, Norwalk River Watershed Association and Norwalk River Watershed Initiative and Ambler Farm. Book Sale this weekendThe library's annual book sale is Saturday, April 28 through Tuesday, May 1. On Saturday, Early Buyers gain admission to the sale with a $15 fee from the hours of 7-10 a.m. From 10-5, the doors open with free admission to the public. On Sunday, the sale runs from noon-5. Books, DVDs, music CDs and audiobooks are priced as marked on Saturday and Sunday, along with a silent auction on both days. The list of books in the silent auction can be found by visiting the library's Web site at www.wiltonlibrary.org and clicking on Book Sale 2007. On Monday, April 30, the sale runs from 10-5 with items half-price and on Tuesday, May 1, the hours are 10-2, items are free with donations. As an added attraction, the Wilton Rotary Club will be selling doughnuts and coffee on Saturday morning, and hot dogs, sodas and chips Saturday at lunchtime. Chamber music concert SundayThe Errante/Cho Trio performs on Sunday, April 29, at 4 p.m. for the Connecticut's Own Chamber Music Concert Series with the program, Schumann meets Brahms: A Program of Letters and Chamber Music. The trio features Richard Errante (violin), Lois Errante (cello), and Kyong Hee Cho (piano). There is no charge for the program. New music series debutsThe library is offering Inside the Music, a unique, three-part series on different aspects of music, taught by three talented, well-known Wilton residents. On Saturday, May 5 Inside the Music with Allen Brings: Out of One, Many - How Single-voiced Music became Many-voiced begins the series which runs from 10:30 a.m. - noon. Employing a blend of musical illustration and discussion, composer and pianist Allen Brings will demonstrate how the monophony that characterized all music in the early Middle Ages in the West evolved into the polyphony that is heard in almost all music today. Brings will illustrate his session using CDs from the library's Knott collection and by playing some pieces on the piano. Award-winning composer and musician Chris Brubeck hosts the second session on Saturday, May 12 with Evolution of a Commission; and writer, composer, and lyricist John Mucci discusses The Rise and Fall of Verismo Opera on May 19.
