Film Screening of Senior Center Book

On Friday, May 4, the library will show the film, Staying On, based on the book by Paul Scott in the Brubeck Room. The book was this month's Senior Center book discussion led by Ben Van Vechten. The movie will be shown from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch. There is no charge for the program which is open to the public. Advance registration is suggested. Inside the Music begins

This Saturday, composer and pianist Allen Brings hosts the first of a 3-part series entitled Inside the Music. His seminar, Out of One, Many--How Single-voiced Music became Many-voiced, is from 10:30 a.m. - noon. The program combines discussion and musical illustration, with Mr. Brings using examples from CDs within the library's collection and his own talents on the piano. His program discusses how music evolved from single instruments in the Middle Ages to multiple instruments in music heard today. Musician and composer Chris Brubeck headlines the Evolution of a Commission on May 12 in which he discusses his compositional process, focusing mainly on the development of a piece commissioned by The Boston Pops for national broadcast entitled Interplay for Three Violins and Orchestra. Composer, lyricist and musician John Mucci leads a session on May 19, entitled The Rise and Fall of Verismo Opera. There is no charge for the series. Advance registration is suggested. Digital slideshows discussed

Michael Franco holds a digital photography demonstration class on Creating Slideshows to View and Share on Saturday, May 5 from 11 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Participants learn how to create slideshows of favorite snapshots which can be saved as movie files playable with Windows Media Player. Topics include Titles & Credits, Music, Transitions and Picture Panning. There is no charge for this program. Advance registration suggested. Call 762-3950 or register online.

Student art returns to the library

On Monday, May 7, Wilton Schools Fine and Performing Arts (FAPA) Exhibition returns to the library after a brief hiatus due to construction. The opening reception from 6-7:30 features musical performances by students along with more than 400 works from students in kindergarten through 12th grade. The exhibit runs through Tuesday, May 29.

Book discussions this week

Wilton Library Readers convenes on Wednesday, May 9, from noon-1:30, to discuss Becoming Strangers by Louise Dean. The book group is led by Susan Boyar. Participants are encouraged to bring lunch. This is the last session until the fall. Call 762-3950 or register online.

The International Book Group: Literature of Other Lands also meets on Wednesday, from 7-8:30 p.m. Speaker Vita Silina from Latvia starts her discussion using the book The Rings of My Tree: A Latvian Woman's Journey by Jane E. Cunningham. The book does not have to be read in order to learn about other cultures. Refreshments and international desserts will be served. There is no charge for either program. Children create Mother's Day gifts

On Saturday, May 12, Daryl Beyers, assistant editor of Fine Gardening magazine, talks to children ages 5-8 about gardening in the program, Gardening for Children-A Plant for Mother from 2-3 p.m. Children will plant seeds and decorate pots for Mother's Day gifts.
