Friday evening, June 1 from 6-7:30, the library opens "Reflections on Gilbert & Bennett," a retrospective art exhibition featuring the paintings of five artists. Dorothy Hyde, Ann Kromer, Lynda Pattee, Jen Shelley and photographer Gretchen Yengst combine their talents to bring an array of styles, moods and media to capture the essence of the closed manufacturing facility. Jazz pianist this weekendBill Charlap, one of jazz's foremost pianists, performs at Wilton Library on Sunday, June 3, at 3 in the Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room jazz series. Charlap is best known for his interpretations from the Great American Songbook, Hoagy Carmichael, Leonard Bernstein and George Gershwin. According to the Boston Globe, "At times Charlap can call to mind the rhythmic gusto of Earl Hines, the Apollonian poise of Teddy Wilson, and the shaded melancholy of Bill Evans, among other pianistic forebears. Yet he always remains recognizably himself." Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room is made possible by the William and Karen Tell Foundation, with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer. The talk provides tips and strategies for keeping seniors safe and independent using affordable services such as homemakers and companions, carpenter and chore service, transportation and home health aides to full-time live-in capabilities. Schenck's Island exploredThe future possibilities of Schenk's Island are discovered on Thursday, June 7, from 7-8 p.m. with landscape designer Larry Weaner talk, Schenck's Island: Natural Area and Public Park. Mr. Weiner discusses its current status and how Wilton might best use it in the years to come as a passive use natural areas park. Friends annual meetingThe library's 112th annual meeting will be held Sunday, June 10, from 4-5:30 p.m. In addition to the election of officers and a general business meeting, attendees will be treated to an abbreviated student performance of Poetry in Motion, the year-long teen poetry diversity project that concluded in March.
