Fantasy Beasts & Books, the children's summer reading program, has many programs for kids this week. Drop-in Story Times for ages 1-6 take place on Tuesday, June 26 as follows: Ones and Twos meet with caregivers at 10:15-10:45; Threes and Fours gather from 11:15-11:45; and Fives and Sixes meet from 2-2:45. Additional dates for Drop-In Story Times are July 5, 19, 24, 31, August 7 and 14. Drop-In Crafts are all day on Thursday, June 28. Kids entering grades 4 and up have Incredible Creature Crafts also on Thursday, June 28. Their crafts will be a little bit more involved for their age group. Live wolf

Atka the Artic Wolf returns to the library on Wednesday, June 27, from 2-3 p.m. His visit is part of the Fantasy Beasts & Books reading program and is made possible by the Betsy and Jesse Fink Foundation. Children will learn about wolves and the impact of humans on the environment. There is no charge for the program. Registration is on a first come, first served basis, with no advance registration. The first 150 children and caregivers to register at the door beginning at 1:30 will attend the program. All children must be accompanied by caregivers. For information: 762-3950.

Call for artists

The library's 63rd annual Wilton Summer Artists Show has its opening reception on Friday, July 6 from 5:30-7. More than 50 Wilton artists are expected to exhibit oils, watercolors, pastels, drawings and sculptures. Wilton artists interested in exhibiting should bring one or two framed and wired pieces to the library on Friday and Saturday, June 29 and 30, from 10 - 4. Proceeds from the sale of the artists' works will benefit the library's art fund. For information: 762-3950. Exhibition runs through Thursday, August 30.

Summer trips

Schools out, so now it is up to moms, dads and grandparents to figure out what to do with the kids all day. The Museum Pass Program from the library may be just what everyone needs for fun and educational diversions during the summer. The library offers free or discounted admissions to more than eleven museums around Connecticut, bringing dinosaurs, marine animals, tigers and hands-on science activities to visitors. Some of the participating museums are Dinosaur State Park, Mystic Aquarium, the Maritime Center, Beardsley Zoo and others. The passes can be reserved up to one month in advance by calling the circulation desk at the library. Passes go out for three consecutive days, allowing patrons the ability to pick them up, go the museum and then returning the passes on the third day. Passes are free of charge, however late fees are assessed if returned beyond the three-day allowance. Patrons are responsible for any additional fees at each museum such as parking charges and special exhibit admissions. For information or to reserve a pass, call 762-3950. In addition to the Museum Passes, the Department of Environmental Protection has given the library a one-day pass to any of the states 137 state parks and forests free of charge for a day. The pass covers admission and parking fees and also provides free entrance to any museum located at a state park. A Shared Landscape, a booklet that accompanies the pass, provides detailed information about each of the parks so that patrons may choose from among all the available locations.

Reminder: Library closed Sundays in summer.
