Journey to India and Iran

Kids entering grades 2 through 6 can join Purvi Sarup, a senior at Wilton High School, for a trip to India on Thursday, July 26, from 2-3 p.m., in the program, Take a Magic Carpet Ride to.India. She will share many tales of fantastical creatures from her heritage country. On Wed., Aug. 8, from 3-4 p.m., mother and daughter Golnar and Donya Sadeghi take children on a trip to Iran. Both programs give older kids a chance to learn about other countries, people, customs and stories. The programs are free of charge. Wilton High School alums perform

Mook, a rock fusion band, closes out the library's Summer Music & More Concert Series tonight from 5-6:30 p.m. Band members include Dan Kreiger ('03) on keyboards, Paul Dano ('02), lead vocals and guitar, Chris "Gus Johnson ('03) on drums and Rob Bruce ('99) on bass. The concerts are open to the public and free of charge, along with the refreshments. The concerts are sponsored by The Village Market. For information: 762-3950.

Movies for kids

Reel Fridays start tomorrow at the library with free movies in the mornings for little kids and the afternoons for big kids. On July 27, the 10:30 a.m. movie for kids ages 3-5 is Curious George-Zoo Night; at 2 p.m., The Last Mimzy will be shown. Dora Summer Explorer will be shown on Aug. 3 at 10:30 a.m. and Night at the Museum will be shown that afternoon at 2. The movies for Aug. 10 are Thomas the Tank Engine-Trusty Friends at 10:30 a.m. and Firehouse Dog at 2. The last movies on Aug. 17 are Go Diego Go at 10:30 a.m. and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2007) at 2. Children under 8 must be accompanied by adults; children 8 and over must have caregivers remain in the building. There are no charges for the movies and no registrations. A day of make-believe

Children can drop-in to the Children's Library on Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. to see some familiar princesses. Children can get autographs, do coloring sheets and have refreshments with the princesses. A Day with the Princesses is sponsored by Stop & Shop. For information: 762-3950.

Teens learn defensive moves

Teen girls ages 13-18 have a 2-part program entitled Self Defense is the Best Offense on Wednesday, Aug. 1 and 8, from 7-8 p.m. Martial arts master instructors Shelley Lindstrom and Dave Palmieri will instruct the girls on self-defense maneuvers. Girls who have a better sense of their selves, surroundings and circumstances are better prepared for challenges in college and in life. Attendees should wear comfortable/exercise clothes. Story times and crafts

Kids have lots of opportunities to enjoy themselves at the library over the next few days and weeks with drop-in story times and crafts. Story Times take place on Tuesdays, July 31, August 7 and 14. Ones and Twos come from 10:15-10:45; Threes and Fours from 11:15-11:45; Fives and Sixes are 2-2:45. The story times are free and no registration is required. Drop-In Crafts are on Thursdays, Aug. 2, 9 and 16. Kids of all ages can stop by any time on those days to make crafts based on the summer reading theme, Fantasy Beasts and Books. There is no charge for the crafts and no registration. Incredible Creature Crafts for kids entering 4th grade and up are also on Aug. 2, 9 and 16, from 4-5 p.m. These involve slightly more intricate crafts for older kids. Registration is recommended. Fairy Doll Workshop

Children can create their own Fairy Dolls with expert instruction and guidance from Children's Library assistant, Lesley Keogh. Children can drop-in on Saturday, Aug. 4, between 2 and 4 for demonstrations on how to create the dolls. There is no charge for the workshop and no registration. For more information: 762-3950.
