Rotary involved with AMBER Alert

The Wilton Rotary Club is testing a new program coordinated with the nationwide AMBER Alert identification system which is used when a child goes missing. On Saturday, Aug. 18, from 9-noon in the Brubeck Room of the library, Rotary club members will take photos of children and produce identification cards that parents will keep. The confidential, encrypted information is stored in the secure nationwide database which is then useful only to law enforcement in the case of an emergency. The first card is produced at no charge, subsequent cards to update photos and information are produced for a nominal fee, which goes to Rotary and then is distributed by the club philanthropically in the community and internationally. There is no charge and no registration. The program is sponsored by the Wilton Rotary Club and Wilton Library.

Music for adults

The blues funk sound of Triple Play comes to the library's Brubeck Room for a special performance on Sunday, Aug. 26, from 3-4 p.m. Chris Brubeck, Peter "Madcat" Ruth and Joel Brown reprise their performance from the WaterWorks benefit a few years ago. AllAbout Jazz.com describes the band as "quick-stepping trombone, roadhouse guitar and good-time harmonica." The performance is made possible by the William and Karen Tell Foundation with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer. There is no charge for the concert. Advance registrations are strongly recommended. To register: www.wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950. Pre-registrants must arrive by 2:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating. A reception for the multimedia traveling exhibit, The Times of Dave Brubeck, will follow the concert. The reception is open to the public and free of charge. The exhibit runs through Sunday, Sept. 16, focusing on Dave Brubeck's contributions to jazz and classical music, his involvement in civil rights issues, and his role in cultural ambassadorship programs that used jazz to improve relations between the United States and other countries. The exhibit is made possible at the library by the William and Karen Tell Foundation.
