Art lecture with Joan Kaskell

There is still time for people to come to the library today to hear Joan Kaskell, popular Metropolitan Museum of Art docent, speak about Lorenzo Ghiberti's magnificent renaissance masterpiece - Gates of Paradise. In the Art Series lecture, Florence and the Doors, today from 3-4, Ms. Kaskell gives a slide presentation about the gilded doors that are on exhibit at the Met now through Jan. 13, 2008. After the Met exhibition, the doors will be returned to Florence where they will be installed in the Museo dell'Opera del Duomo. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is recommended. Ms. Kaskell's lecture can be doubly enjoyed by joining the bus trip to the Met on Thursday, Nov. 8, co-sponsored by St. Matthew's Episcopal Church and the library. The bus departs the library at 9:30 and leaves the museum at 4. Cost for bus and museum admission is $46 regular/$42 senior. Reservations are on a first come, first serve basis as space is limited. Both reservations and payments must be made in advance. To register for Joan's lecture: wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950. Call the library to register for the bus trip.

Poetry deadline extended

Teens in grades 7-12 now have until Friday, Nov. 9 to meet the submission deadline for "Poetry in Motion: Right, WRONG and somewhere in-between." According to teen librarian Susan Lauricella, "The timeframe has been extended to make sure we have all the kids who really want to participate - from the very enthusiastic early birds to the equally enthusiastic, albeit much bigger procrastinators." The program will culminate in a two-performance, poetry and arts event centered on the theme of ethics and morals in March, 2008 at the library. A commemorative book with the poems and selected artworks will be published for the event. Students should send their original poems via e-mail to teenpoetry@wiltonlibrary.org no later than Nov. 9. For more information, call Mrs. Lauricella at 762-3950 ext. 243. The program is sponsored by the library with funding from the John and Patricia Curran Teen Fund.
