Charles Grodin, accomplished actor, director, talk show host and author, visits the library tonight at 7 to discuss his new book, If I Only Knew Then.Learning From Our Mistakes. Grodin has compiled a collection of essays from friends, and friends of friends, who reveal some of their most guarded secrets about mistakes they have made. Grodin has a little bit of insight to share through musings by Robert Redford, Alan Alda, Carol Burnett, Walter Cronkite and many others from the fields of sports, journalism, entertainment and politics. Books will be available for purchase and signing, just in time for holiday giving. The author's visit is sponsored by R. J. Julia Booksellers of Madison and the library. Bill Logan rememberedBill Logan, a fifty-year Wilton resident who died last May, will be fondly remembered at the Bill Logan Retrospective Art Show and Auction being held by the library and the Kiwanis Club on Friday, Nov. 16, starting at 6:30. A one-hour reception will be followed by a live auction at 7:30. More than 300 pieces of his artwork will be available for purchase, as fixed-price pieces, and in silent and live auctions, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting both the library and the Kiwanis Club. No strings attachedChildren ages 3-10 and their families get to enjoy members of the string section of the Norwalk Symphony on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 2-3 p.m. In the second of the four-part series, Norwalk Symphony Family Program (Not) Just for Kids, children get to experience hands-on participation with string instruments. Additional dates for the symphony program are March 22 for percussion and May 3 for the brass section. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. Holiday fun for kidsWith Thanksgiving fast approaching, kids have crafts and movies to keep them busy. On Monday, Nov. 19, from 10-8, children can take part in Drop-in Thanksgiving Crafts. Sample crafts will be available for them to follow, with all the materials supplied free by the Children's Library. There are no charges and no reservations required. The Day After Film Fun begins on Friday, Nov. 23 with free movies for kids in the morning and the after. At 10:30, Go Diego Go!Safari Rescue will be shown and at 2, kids can see Santa Clause 3. Children under 8 must be accompanied by adults; children 8 and over must have caregivers remain in the building. There will be free popcorn and lemonade. Flu clinicJust in time for the cold weather setting in, the Nursing & Home Care Flu Clinic takes place at the library on Friday, Nov. 23, from 10:30-1. The cost for the flu vaccine is $35, payable by check or cash, or billable to Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield or Medicare Part B. It is suggested that those receiving the shots wear sleeves that are short or easily rolled up. Children and teens under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Hot topic discussedThe League of Women Voters and the library continue the Hot Topics series with The Medical Use of Marijuana: Legal and Medical Questions, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 29. The discussion centers on the new bill for palliative use of marijuana that was passed by the Connecticut legislature and vetoed by Governor Rell. Confirmed speakers as of this writing include State Representative Toni Boucher, State Representative Michael Lawlor, and Andrea Ruskin, M.D., from Norwalk Hospital.
