Legal use of illegal substance

The League of Women Voters' Hot Topic this month is The Medical Use of Marijuana: Legal and Medical Questions, with the panel discussion set for Thursday, Nov. 29, from 7:30-9:30 p.m. at the library. With the proposed state bill vetoed by Governor Jodi Rell, a panel discussion will debate the issues surrounding the legalization of marijuana use for medical purposes. According to the League's press release, "The bill would have allowed Connecticut residents with certain debilitating medical conditions to cultivate and use marijuana for palliative purposes under certain circumstances." The panelists for the evening's discussion are State Representative Toni Boucher; State Representative Michael Lawlor; Andrea Ruskin, M.D., Norwalk Hospital; and Seyed Aleali, M.D., St. Vincent's Hospital. The program is free of charge. Advance registration is suggested. To register: wiltonlibrary.org/events or call 762-3950.

Different views

The last art show for the year at the library features a unique representation of "landscapes" when artists from the Silvermine Guild have an opening reception for their show, "Terraform," on Friday, Nov. 30, from 6 - 7:30 p.m. which is open to the public. The exhibiting artists are Ann Conrad, Liana Moonie, Gerald Saladyga and Eve Stockton. Their works challenge the generally accepted idea of what is a landscape "painting." Each of the artists engaged with the landscape to create abstract works that are poetic, analytic and sometimes scientific in their representation of landscapes. The paintings will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. The exhibit runs through Friday, Dec. 28. For information: 762-3950.

There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is required to allow for confirmations and assigned time slots. Call the library for details or to register: 762-3950 x 265 (Pat Bergin).
