Wilton School district PTA Council holds its reception for Reflections, the K-12 art exhibition, at the library on Friday, Jan. 11, from 6-8 p.m. The students' artworks are on display and represent six categories: dance/choreography (new category), literature, film/video production (new category), musical composition, photography and the visual arts, including art forms such as drawing, painting, printmaking and collage. Photography classMichael Franco shows photography students how to download and use GIMP, a free, fully-functional image processor, on Saturday, Jan. 12, from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Students learn how to download, install and use this free alternative to Photoshop Elements in a demonstration-style class. Indian holidaysChildren in grades 2 and up-and their parents-are invited to a program celebrating Sikh culture, Saturday, Jan. 12, from 2-3 p.m. High school junior Angad Singh will discuss two festivals: Lohri-the celebration of the harvest season-and the birthday of Guru Gobind Sing Ji in the program, Indian Festivals. He will also have a dance and drum performance before discussing his December visit to Pingalwara Home for the Disabled in Amritsar, India. Refreshments will be served. Yoga for TeensTeens get to de-stress during the program, Yoga for Teens: Focus and De-stress Before Exams, Sunday, Jan. 13, from 3-4:15. Kids should wear comfortable clothes and bring yoga mats. Health resolutions for the new yearWith people making healthy decisions to start the New Year off right, these seminars may be the answer to getting some sound advice. Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo returns to the library to speak on his new book, The GenoType DietT: Change Your Genetic Destiny to Live the Longest, Fullest, and Healthiest Life Possible, Wednesday, Jan. 16, from 7-8:30 p.m. The naturopathic physician, educator and researcher discusses a diet that can be programmed for each individual's unique genetic makeup, designed to maximize a person's health and wellbeing. Books will be provided by Wilton Open Book Shop for purchase and signing. On Thursday, Jan. 17, clinical nutritionist, Loryn Galardi, M.S., discusses Eating to Reduce Aging and Disease, from 7-8:30 p.m. in the first of her two-part series. Ms. Galardi talks about concentrating on foods that eliminate or reduce inflammation, in chronic ailments such as hay fever, heart disease, depression, diabetes, and premature aging. Her second session, How Artificial Sweeteners and Trans Fats Can Make Us Sick and Overweight, is on Thursday, Jan. 31, also at 7. The programs are free of charge. Advance registration is recommended. Celebrating Martin Luther King, Jr.The library will be showing Disney's Ruby Bridges to commemorate Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with Reel Sunday, Jan. 20, from 2-3:30 p.m. The program is appropriate for children ages seven and older.
