With new year’s resolutions quickly slipping away, clinical nutritionist Loryn Galardi, M.S., discusses Eating to Reduce Aging and Disease tonight from 7–8:30, providing a wake-up call to attendees. She talks about concentrating on foods that eliminate or reduce inflammation in chronic ailments such as hay fever, heart disease, depression, diabetes, and premature aging. On Thursday, Jan. 31 at 7, she returns to the library to discuss How Artificial Sweeteners and Trans Fats Can Make us Sick and Overweight. There is no charge for the two-part series. Family movie and discussionThis Sunday, Jan. 20, the library is showing the Disney movie, Ruby Bridges from 2–3:30 p.m. to commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The movie is appropriate for children 7 and older and their parents should plan to attend with them. The made-for-TV movie is based on the true story of one little girl who helped change history by showing strength and dignity as she struggled to attend an all-white school in Louisiana. Concerts this monthThe Candlelight Concert at Wilton Congregational Church is on Sunday, Jan. 20, from 4–6 p.m. The Concertante Chamber Music Ensemble performs. At the end of the month, Wilton High School alum Dan Kreiger (’03) performs in the library’s Connecticut’s Own concert series on Sunday, Jan. 27 at 4 p.m. He will play classical pieces from a variety of eras and composers, including Bach and Chopin. Story timesLittle kids ages 1-6 need wait no further for the start of Winter Story Times which will be held on Mondays through Wednesdays, Jan. 22 through March 12. The first session begins on Tuesday, Jan. 22, since the library will be closed Monday, Jan. 21 for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Ones and Twos with caregivers meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:15 – 10:45; Twos and Threes with caregivers also meet on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10:15 – 10:45. Threes and Fours gather on Wednesdays from 11:30 – noon and 1 – 1:30; Fours, Fives and Sixes meet on Mondays and Tuesdays from 2 – 2:45. There is no session on Monday, Feb. 18. Winter Story Times are free of charge. Registration is recommended. Older children can take part in Folklore and Fantasy, on Saturday, Jan. 26, from 3–4 p.m. These wonderful tales are for kids in kindergarten through grade 4. Teens performThe popular Teen Open Mic Night returns to the library on Friday, Jan. 25, from 7–9 p.m. for kids in grades 7–12.
