Movie screening

Children in kindergarten through fourth grade have a special story time called Folklore and Fantasy on Saturday, Feb. 23, from 3–4 p.m. Kids will hear folktales from other countries and cultures, giving them a fresh perspective on literature from other lands. Picture IDs for kids

The Wilton Rotary Club is providing a program coordinated with the nationwide Amber Alert identification system on Sunday, Feb. 24, from 1–4 p.m. Parents can bring their children to the library where club members will take photos and produce identification cards that parents can keep. The cards will be registered with the secure national database. There is no charge for the ID. The program is sponsored by the Rotary Club and the library.

Senior citizens discuss history

Reference librarian David Ostergren leads the discussion at the next Senior Center Book Discussion on Tuesday, Feb. 26 at 11 a.m. The World is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-First Century by Thomas Friedman will be explored. Computer classes provide the basics

Whether it is word processing, spreadsheets or computer slide shows, anyone wanting to learn the basics of any of these programs can register for the February and March classes being offered free at the library. Mary Anne Franco, head of Network Services for the library, provides the step-by-step instruction in hands-on computer classes. The classes are held in the computer lab where each attendee has access to a computer. The classes fill up quickly due to their popularity and the quality of the instruction. The daytime classes are on Thursdays, from 12:30–2 p.m. and the evening classes are offered on Tuesdays, from 6:30–8 p.m. Basic Word is available on Feb. 26 at 6:30 p.m. and Feb. 28 at 12:30 p.m.; Basic Excel is March 4 at 6:30 p.m. and March 6 at 12:30 p.m.; and Basic PowerPoint is March 25 at 6:30 p.m. and March 27 at 12:30 p.m. Basic computer skills, including mouse proficiency is required. The classes are free of charge. Advance registration is required for all classes. Participants are asked to arrive in time to assure uninterrupted instruction. Book club for kids

The registration is filled for the Kids’ Book Club meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 27, from 5:30–6:30 p.m. when the children will learn more about author Roald Dahl. Kids have two more meetings to participate in for March and April. Children in grades 2–6 can join the fun in the Kids’ Book Club on March 26 where the topic is the 1960s and everything related to that decade, and April 30, when the topic and the activities will be about mysteries. The dogs are back

Children in grades 2 and up get to spend some quality time reading to certified guide dogs during Tales to Tails on Saturday, March 1, from 2–3:15 p.m. Whether the children are avid or reluctant readers, they can practice their reading skills while the dogs sit quietly for the 10–15 minute intervals. Kids can bring favorite books from home, or choose them from the library’s collection. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is required as space is limited. Jazz at the Brubeck Room

The Library Hot & Cool jazz series continues with Michael Moore and Gene Bertoncini on Sunday, March 2, from 4–6 p.m. This jazz performing duo of Moore on bass and Bertoncini on guitar, have performed together for seven years in nearly year-round Sunday concerts at Zinno, in Greenwich Village. Bertoncini is an original jazz guitarist with a pure acoustic sound, and has been called 'the Jazz Segovia' after the legendary classical Spanish guitarist, Andres Segovia. A reception follows the performance. Hot & Cool: Jazz at the Brubeck Room is funded by the William and Karen Tell Foundation with special thanks to Ed and Catherine Romer. Advance registration is strongly recommended and pre-registrants must arrive by 3:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating.
