Fairy workshop on Saturday

Lesley Keogh, Children’s Library assistant, will be on-hand to help kids with their Spiderwick Chronicles fairy workshop, from 2–4 p.m. on Saturday, March 8. Children in grades 3 and up will be able to use the library’s materials to create a Spiderwick creature, such as a goblin, a sprite, an ogre or a boggart. There is no charge for the program. Double feature art exhibition

A diverse collection of artwork will be featured when Frank Detrich and Barbara Rist have their opening artists’ reception on Sunday, March 9, from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. The library’s gallery and interior walls will be covered with more than 50 of Detrich’s oil paintings depicting lush landscapes. More than 25 large scale paper mosaics of ripped paper showcase the works of Rist. Many of the pieces will be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefiting the library. Winter series continues

On Tuesday, March 11, the fourth session in the five-part series, In the Midst of Winter Series: Life Care Management—Coordinating Your Parent’s Care, takes place from 4 – 5:30 p.m. Speaker Maureen Walsh addresses what is involved in managing the care of a loved one who wishes to be cared for at home and what resources are available to assist the caregiver. Last topic and date is March 25 Techniques for Coping with Stress. The series is sponsored by Mid-Fairfield Hospice. There is no charge for the program. Advance registration is suggested. Book group convenes

Susan Boyar discusses The Professor’s House by Willa Cather with the Wilton Library Readers on Wednesday, March 12, from noon to 1:30. There is no charge for the program. Registration is suggested. Comstock Community Center discussed

The next Hot Topic for the League of Women Voters is the Comstock Community Center Update on Wednesday, March 12, from 7:30 – 9 p.m. A panel discussion with the Comstock Steering Committee will take place to discuss the development of the Community Center. A Question & Answer period will follow the panel discussion. The program is co-sponsored by the Wilton League of Women Voters and the library. There is no charge. Advance registration is suggested. Weir series continues

The next two sessions of the Adair Burlingham Memorial Lecture Series take place on Thursday, March 13 and 20, from 7–8:30 p.m. Informal receptions follow each lecture. The series is designed to acquaint attendees with the Branchville resident and renowned American artist, J. Alden Weir, including his friends, his family and his home, which is Connecticut’s only national park. On March 13, Samuel White, a descendant of Stanford White of McKim Mead and White speaks about “The Architect as Client: Stanford White at Box Hill,” and on March 20, Charles Burlingham, Jr. grandson of Weir speaks of “Memories of Weir Farm,” and plays Cole Porter songs on the piano during the reception. Individual tickets for $15 may be purchased at Weir Farm Art Center or at the library prior to the lectures, or at the door. Proceeds benefit the Weir Farm Art Center and the library.

Constitution series

The third part of the constitution series, The United States Constitution—A Living Legacy: The Constitution as Amended in the Nineteenth Century—Panel Discussion, takes place at the Wilton Historical Society on Sunday, March 16 at 2 p.m. Panelists are Mark Graber, professor of law and government at the University of Maryland School of Law and Owen Williams, Raoul Berger Fellow at Harvard Law, graduate of Yale Law and Ph.D. candidate at Yale University, and currently researching his book on the history of the Supreme Court during the Civil War. The last session of the series is May 1 (previously scheduled for April 24) with Sandy Levinson, University of Texas/Harvard/Yale Law Schools. His session at the Wilton Historical Society will be on Interpreting the Constitution at 7:30 p.m. There is no charge for the series. Registration is strongly recommended. Woodwinds for Connecticut’s Own concert

On Sunday, March 16, from 4-5 p.m., Dr. Ralph Kirmser and his quintet of woodwinds, Prevailing Winds of Connecticut, return to the Connecticut’s Own Concert Series. Performers include: Ralph Kirmser (oboe), Richard Epstein (bassoon), Kathy Sumerow (flute), Janet Atherton (clarinet) and Stewart Edelstein (French horn). Advance registration is suggested and pre-registrants must arrive by 3:50 p.m. to be guaranteed seating.
