A Star Wars Celebration weekend kicks off today and continues through Sunday, April 6 for kids to enjoy movies, crafts, light saber demonstrations and piñata-whacking. The extravaganza begins with the screening of Phantom Menace, from 5:30–7:30 tonight with popcorn and lemonade. A Star Wars graphic novel will be raffled off at the end of the movie. The remaining five Star Wars films will be screened as follows: Attack of the Clones, Friday, April 4, 3:30–6; Revenge of the Sith, Friday, April 4, 6:30–9; A New Hope, Saturday, April 5, 10:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m.; Empire Strikes Back, Saturday, April 5, 12:30–2:30; and Return of the Jedi, Sunday, April 6, 1:30–4. Children under 8 must be accompanied by caregivers; children between 8 and 12 must have caregivers in the building during the screenings. Pakistan explored tonightThe International Book Group: Literature of Other Lands learns about Pakistan tonight at 7 with guest speaker Farheen Khan. She will be using Trespassing: A Novel by Uzma Aslam Khan as a backdrop for the discussion. The book group reads for pleasure and learns about other cultures and lands in the process. Robert Frost and others discussedDr. Joanna Ecke kicks off National Poetry Month on Sunday, April 6, from 2–3:30, by leading a discussion on the poetry of Robert Frost and others who were influenced by Frost’s view of nature. A graduate of Smith College, Dr. Ecke selected Robert Frost for her Ph.D. dissertation at Duke University. A popular guest lecturer at the library, Dr. Ecke also is a retired Wilton High School English teacher and instructional leader and an occasional columnist for The Wilton Bulletin. Candlelight concert SundayWindscape Wind Ensemble performs this Sunday, April 6, from 4–6 p.m. at Wilton Congregational Church for the Wilton Candlelight Concerts. Windscape was created in 1994 by five of New York’s most eminent solo wind artists. A portion of the concert’s proceeds benefits the library. Decorating Swedish styleAuthors Rhona Eleish and Edie Van Breems share their knowledge of Swedish decorating on Tuesday, April 8, from 11 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Swedish Interiors is the first book to share the history, progression, and key elements of Swedish style and how to use it in many different styles of homes. The authors operate Eleish Van Breems Antiques, a Swedish antiques and decorating resource in Woodbury, CT. The pair will discuss the book and Swedish style with a colorful slide presentation.
