With daffodils peeking up through the hardened winter ground, the time for spring renewal is here. The library is welcoming spring with an Earth Day Celebration starting with drop-in Earth Day crafts on Friday, April 18, and big festivities on Sunday, April 20, from 1–4:30. The Earth Balloon exhibit will be in the Brubeck Room with presenters taking kids and families on an interactive and captivating journey around and inside the earth, with a special program geared to Earth Day. The presentations are 15 minutes in length. Free tickets will be available for each 15-minute segment when the library opens at 1 on Sunday. The gallery will be filled with tables providing information on solar energy, locally-grown farm stands, energy efficient light bulbs (CFLs) for purchase, and “green” cleaning products. Attendees can bring in 10 or more plastic grocery bags from home and receive a reusable cloth grocery bag (limit 2 per family) courtesy of The Village Market, Millstone Farm and the Wilton Library. Children can create a sunflower craft and Ambler Farm is providing seeds for children to plant in pots that they can take home and watch grow. Old cell phones, inkjet cartridges and eyeglasses will be accepted for recycling. The day includes free grilled turkey dogs, beverages, music and more activities. There is no charge for the day. The story unfolds with Lillian Leyb, whose family is destroyed in a Russian pogrom, finding her way to America to begin a new chapter in her life, only to discover that perhaps her daughter, Sophie, is still alive.
