Greetings!August is typically a rather quiet time in town, with many who live
and work in Wilton on vacation. The grocery stores are less crowded, restaurant
reservations are easier to come by, and driving in Wilton Center during "rush
hours" is calming rather than frustrating as nobody seems to be in a hurrry
and politeness prevails. I confess that I'm glad I'm NOT away! One of the treats
reserved for those in town this month is the opening of the first phase of
our renovations in the "old" Wilton Library building. Visitors will begin to
see the exciting rejuvenation of the 30-year-old facility and its seamless
integration with the two-story addition that made its debut in July. Online,
everyone can follow the progress through photographs,
but I can tell you that my photography skills are not up to the task of doing
justice to the "in-person" experience of a visit. Please stop by - to take
out a book for the beach, check out a movie for a summer evening at home, read
a magazine or newspaper in the cool and comfortable reading room, or simply
to drink in the fabulous surroundings. Our full adult and teen collections
will be available once again for borrowing on Monday, August 8th. Although
renovations and further construction along the northern side of the building
will continue throughout the fall, we'll have much that's new for you to savor!
Please stop in to see us!
Sincerely,
Kathy Leeds, Director

Irish Minstrel, Richard Stillman

|
Our Passport to Adventure entertainments will conclude on August 4th at 2 pm with a performance from the famous Irish Minstrel, Richard Stillman. Richard will play pipes to set toes tapping and perhaps inspire a jig. Don't miss his rousing renditions - it's a perfect activity for the whole family - and it's free, thanks to a grant from Stop & Shop. Please register for the program to insure a seat - in person, by phone (762-3950), or online. |

Mark your calendars! One of the most popular events of the year is coming next month - the annual Wilton Library ladies' soirée and silent auction. Celebrity bartenders will serve up beverages and you'll enjoy terrific hors d'oeuvres as you shop and catch up with friends. This year's theme is "Just Jewels," and you will find both fine and fun adornments to bid on and buy, so bring your credit cards and checkbooks. Your $25 admission price and all proceeds from the auction will directly benefit the library's technology fund, so come - and invite your friends! Our gorgeous new gallery will be the setting for a fabulous evening... so save the date and time: SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 25th, 6-8 PM |

Additions in August

Each month we add to our outstanding collection of DVDs and this month is no exception. Make sure you stop by to see the entire collection, but you can sample what's newly added by visiting our "August "now playing" page. The $1-for-2-nights rental fee is used to keep the collection strong and current - every dollar augments our audiovisual materials budget. When you check movies out, you help us to buy more wonderful films for future viewing and contribute to a community resource! |
