E-Newsletter Named

Wilton Library's electronic newsletter finally has a new name: librarEmail. Two different people submitted variations on this theme for the recent e-newsletter contest. Cindy Waters and Cathy Harding will be collecting their winning certificates, which entitle them to 30 free videos at the library. Additionally, they'll be receiving librarEmail every month electronically to keep them in touch with library events and news.

Expansion News!

A two-page "Library Listens" survey was mailed to all Wilton residents on June 14th and the results are flooding in. Earlier, through focus groups, a touchscreen survey, interviews with staff and the work of our consultants, we had identified several key areas that might be addressed by our expansion. The "Library Listens" survey gives everyone in town a chance to tell us which they think are most important, and generally to tell us how they feel about the Library and its future. We are fortunate to have George Fuller of MSI Strategic, Inc. in Westport, tabulating and interpreting the answers and look forward to sharing his analysis with you soon.

Children's Summer Programs

Sponsored by Stop & Shop, the Festival of Words and Music will delight children of all ages this summer at the Library. Kids can take part in the reading program all summer long, putting stickers that signify books completed on their own drum or guitar posters that are mounted on walls throughout the Children's Services Area of the Library. They can attend the crafts programs on Thursdays, learning about different instruments while enjoying creative fun. They can take part in "drop-in" story times on Tuesdays throughout the month (no fee and no registration!). Finally, they can attend our musical Fridays - each one featuring a different live performer and geared to different age groups (fee of $5/$4 for Young Readers). All in all, July promises to be a tuneful and terrific month for our younger patrons - be sure to stop by and get a brochure that details all the fun going on!

Summer Concert Series Returns

Our very popular Courtyard Concert series returns this summer, kicking off on Thursday, June 27 with Chance Browne at 5:00 p.m. Sponsored by the Village Market, the concert series and refreshments are free and open to the public. Join us as we celebrate this wonderful part of Wilton's summers.

Dates in the series:
* June 27: Chance Browne
* July 11: Bob Riccio & Kix play songs of the 50s, 60s and 70s
* July 18: Gus Jazz Band and Tony Kirmser/Will Fownes Duo
* July 25: Joint Chiefs play folk and acoustic rock
* August 1: Jazz singer Cynthia McCorkindale and Café Musette

These fabulous free concerts will get long summer weekends started off right! Stop by on the way home from the office, with the kids as you do those last minute errands, or when you come by to pick up your summer reading or that video for the weekend. You'll be in for a real treat.

The 58th Annual Summer Art Exhibition

Friday, July 12th, from 6-8 p.m. is the opening reception for our 58th Annual Summer Art Exhibition. Over 40 Wilton artists will display their works and a variety of media will be represented. Sales of the artwork benefit the Library (20% of the purchase price is used to buy books about art and art instruction and to fund our mailings and receptions). Please come and take part on the 12th, or visit us throughout the summer to enjoy - and purchase! - the art of Wilton's own.

Summer Book Sale

We'll have lots of paperbacks and children's books for sale toward the end of the month, so stop by to buy bags full for summer reading. The sale will take place under the tent on the patio Thursday, July 25th and Friday, July 26th from 10:00 am to 4:00 p.m. Be sure to drop by - there are thousands of bargains to be had!

Telephone Changes

You should notice fewer busy signals when you call the Library in the future - we have added more lines and a new (voice mail) system for leaving messages when staff members are away from their desks. These changes will allow us to better serve both those calling in and those we see in person. Keep your suggestions coming - we're listening!
