Expansion
News
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
On Saturday, May 10th, Wilton voters approved the $4.8 million
bond appropriation for the Library's expansion and renovation by a
resounding 2-1 margin. Added to private funds pledged to date of more
than $1.6 million and a State grant of $500,000, this brings us to
within $1.1 million of our $8 million goal. We will be working over
the summer to both refine the building's design and to plan a gala
week that will take place in late September. If you have an interest
in participating in either sort of planning, just give us a call!
Computer
Classes
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Computer guru and columnist Mary Anne Franco will lead a hands-on
class in intermediate Internet skills on Wednesday, June 4th, from
8:30-10 am. Mary Anne will teach her students about Web-based e-mail
(Yahoo!, Hotmail, etc.) on Wednesday, June 11th, from 8:30 to 10 am.
Students should register in advance as space is limited and the classes are extremely popular. There is a fee of $15 for Friends of the Library and $20 for others (proceeds help to fund future programs). Come benefit from these user friendly learning sessions before hours in the Reference Area of the Library.
Wilton
Library Association Annual Meeting
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Officers of the Association and Trustees will be elected and
the year (and what a year it's been!) will be reviewed at the WLA Annual
Meeting at 4:00 p.m. in the Children's Picture Book Room on Sunday,
June 8th. The Library will close early (at 4 p.m.) to accomodate the
Meeting. The guest speaker this year will be longtime Library Friend
and former war correspondent for CBS News, Richard C. Hottelet, who
is just back from a trip to Kosovo. Join us to reflect on the past,
look forward to the future and focus on events beyond our borders.
Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
Thanks
Yous to Local Business, Organizations and Individuals...
Recent refurbishing has happened both inside and outside the
Library, thanks to local businesses, organizations and individuals.
Visitors to the "New Books" section of the lobby will notice that the
badly frayed benches so important to browzing patrons are now beautifully
recovered, thanks to the generosity of Sheridan Interiors. Outside
the Library, gardens have been refreshed and created by Lee Horticultural,
with the bed beside the wall on Old Ridgefield Road donated in memory
of Virginia Adams, a friend and past president of the Wilton Library
Association. Above that wall, a replacement for the third little hippo
has appeared, thanks to Kenneth Lynch & Sons. Around the corner, on
Godfrey Place, master gardeners Donna Ferries and Lydia Wallis have
created a lovely perennial border with significant donations from Young's
Nurseries and their own gardens. Finally, the Kiwanis Club of Wilton
has given us six wonderful teak benches that will allow Wilton Center
pedestrians to take a break on the Library grounds. Stop by and see
us!
Stress
