Often we turn to the Internet for research but a wealth of current, comprehensive and authoritative information is available through Wilton Library's vast selection of Research Databases. Research databases provide access to resources across a wide spectrum of topics such as the arts, genealogy, academic research, home improvement, health and wellness, business and more. Why use a database instead of relying on Google searches? How is a research database different from a website? Here's the scoop:
Databases get their information from professionals or experts in the field. Websites can be written by anyone regardless of expertise.
Databases contain published works where facts are checked. Website content is not necessarily checked by an expert.
Databases are updated frequently and are easy to cite in a bibliography. Websites often don't provide the information necessary to create complete citation.
Databases can help you narrow your topic or suggest related subjects. Websites often aren't organized to support student research needs.
Databases are paid for by Wilton Library so that you can have free access to scholarly information. Some website resources are free, but others require you to pay for them.
Patrons have easy access from home or at the Library to our Research Databases. Simply enter your Wilton Library card barcode number without spaces when prompted. Have questions?
