PLEASE NOTE THAT IN JANUARY 2008, ROSETTA STONE IS TERMINATING THEIR CONTRACTS WITH PUBLIC LIBRARIES; UNFORTUNATELY, OUR ACCESS TO ROSETTA STONE WILL END AT THAT TIME.
Wilton Library is pleased to bring you access to Rosetta Stone language learning software, designed to:
- Assist individuals learn English as an additional language ; and
- Aid in literacy training.
If you do not already have Adobe Shockwave Player on your computer, you must download it first. Follow these steps:
- Make sure you are logged into Windows with an Administrator account access.
- Be sure any Pop Up Blockers are disabled. If you need to connect to the Internet through AOL, please connect, then minimize the AOL window. Then open Internet Explorer.
- If you use an Internet Firewall, please make sure that is not blocking any installation. Some Internet Security programs include a "Privacy" setting which may block required cookies.
- Go to Internet Options (click on Tools on the Menu line in Internet Explorer and then on Internet Options).
- Click Delete Files and then select Delete all offline content (if you see such a button)and click Yes.
- Delete cookies, if you see a Delete Cookies button.
- Click Clear History. Click Yes.
- Click the Security tab at the top and make sure Security level is Medium (click Default Level if it says Custom). Click Apply.
- Click the Privacy tab and make sure this setting is also Medium. Uncheck the "Block Pop-Ups" button at the bottom. Click Apply then OK.
- Next go to your Control Panel and click on Add or Remove Programs. Look for Adobe Shockwave Player, Macromedia Shockwave Player and for Shockwave. If you see any of these, uninstall then reboot your computer.
- Open Internet Explorer and go to: http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/#sp
- Download Shockwave Player 10, Full-Fast Installer, for Internet Explorer. Save it to your desktop, then double click the icon to run it and install.
- You should then be able to go to Rosetta Stone and access your lessons! You may be asked to allow some speech packages to install Active X controls.
If you have a problem downloading Shockwave Player or creating your username and password, you may call Rosetta Stone at 800-788-0822. Press 1 in the first menu and press 2 in the second menu for technical support. They will be happy to help you.
