Wilton Go Green Festival

This is the second annual community-wide event for Wilton that champions green living. The Earth Balloon at Wilton Library and live demonstration of the new Chevy Volt, Sound Cyclists bike rides, running at Woodcock Nature Center (www.woodcocknaturecenter.org) or the Wilton Family Y, Norwalk River Walk guided by Jim Lucey of Wilton High School and Dave Havens of St. Luke’s School, lectures, seminars, exhibitors, and speakers at various venues including Wilton Library. WGGF – Bike Ride: Upper Level ‘B-’ 16.5 – 18.0 AVG MPH, 44 miles, The Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club invites you to meet at Bright Horizons (Godfrey Place) to join fellow upper level riders on a 44 mile bike ride through Wilton beginning at 8:45AM. Bikers will return to the Town Green between 11:30AM-12:00PM. Bike safety discussion provided before starting. Helmets required. Signing a liability release prior to riding is required. Bike Ride: Upper Level ‘C+’ 15-16.5 AVG MPH 37 miles, The Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club invites you to meet at Bright Horizons (Godfrey Place) to join fellow upper level riders on a 37 mile bike ride through Wilton beginning at 8:45AM. Bikers will return to the Town Green between 11:30AM-12:00PM. Bike safety discussion provided before starting. Helmets required. Signing a liability release prior to riding is required. Bike Ride: Mid level ‘C’ 13-14 AVG MPH 27 miles, The Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club invites you to meet at Bright Horizons (Godfrey Place) to join fellow mid-level riders on this 32 mile bike ride through Wilton beginning at 9:00AM. Bikers will return to the Town Green around 11:30AM. Bike safety discussion before starting. Helmets required. Signing a liability release prior to riding is required. Bikers will return to the Town Green around 11:30AM. Bike safety discussion before starting. Helmets required. Signing a liability release prior to riding is required. WGGF – Bike Ramble: Family Town Loop 2.5/5 miles, The Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club invites you to meet at Bright Horizons (Godfrey Place) with your family for a casual bike ramble of either 2.5 or 5 miles through Wilton Town Center, coordinated by the Sound Cyclists Bicycle Club. Ramble will begin at 9:45AM-10:00AM. Bikers will return to the Town Green between 10:45-11:30AM. Helmets required. Please note: children 5 years and under can only ride with a parent in a bike carrier or on an adult/child tandem. WGGF – Earth Balloon, Participants can take a journey to the center of the Earth. The 20-foot diameter model is an inflatable globe of the earth imprinted with a high-resolution satellite image. Parents and children of all ages are welcome to enter the Earth Balloon to learn about the planet. These ongoing presentations will take place every 15 minutes in the Wilton Library’s Brubeck Room from 11 am to 4 pm Tickets will be available at the door. Stop by and pick them up early. The Earth Balloon is sponsored by the Wilton Library and the Betsy and Jesse Fink Foundation for Wilton Library’s Environmental Initiative. - 11:30 am-12:30 pm
Arbor Day Presentation, The Tree Steward Award this year is a posthumous award to George Symonds, a long-time Wilton resident and co-founder of the Wilton Land Trust, who wrote (about 50 years ago) two of the seminal works in practical botanical identification, The Tree Identification Book and The Shrub Identification Book. The Tree Committee will also provide a brief recap of the town’s progress in implementing the Wilton Center Tree Plan and acknowledge the generous Wilton residents who have donated 33 new trees and six benches to the Center. - 3-4:30 pm
WGGF – Guided Norwalk River Walk and Wade, Back by popular demand, the dynamic teaching duo of Jim Lucey of Wilton High School and Dave Havens of St. Luke’s School in New Canaan will lead a guided Norwalk River tour across from Wilton High School at 3 pm Wading boots and nets will be provided. Space is limited, so please register in advance.
