Welcome to Wilton Library

Events:

Kids ages 8 and up are invited to join Wilton Library’s Minecraft Computer Club. A server for Fairfield County has been set up with a virtual world where the Minecraft community in Wilton can meet and the club welcomes the enthusiasts. Please note: Minecraft is a subscription-based, online game. Players must bring their own laptop and create their own account. Handheld devices are not recommended because they run a Minecraft app that does not work with the same server. To be added to the Fairfield County server you must visit the Children’s Desk with a valid library card to be registered. Caretakers must sign in their child with staff member. If the child is not present and signed in by 10:10, the place may be given to a waitlisted child. Caretakers must remain in the building. Registration required; no fee.

The collaboration between the Wilton Library and the Wilton Historical Society kicks off its 8th season of scholarly lectures with The Gilded Age: Culture and Conflict at the End of the 19th Century. Ann Greene, a faculty member and administrator at the University of Pennsylvania in the Department of History and Sociology of Science, returns to deliver her lecture: The Gilded Age—A Familiar but Ambiguous Label for a Period of Rapid Change. Her presentation addresses many probing issues such as is the term Gilded Age a useful description of the era or does it raise more questions than it answers? She has written a book on the energy history of 19th century America, called Horses at Work: Harnessing Power in Industrial America and specializes in Gilded Age environmental, technological and political history.  Reception following the talk. No charge, but donations are always welcomed. Series sponsored by an anonymous donor.

Location: Wilton Library
Lecture sponsor:  Lee Wilson, Wilson Properties
